The Swamper is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to perform supportive work to our Vacuum Truck Operator and other equipment operators, in a safety-sensitive environment, to ensure jobsites are prepped and ready for project commencement, maintained for cleanliness and safety throughout the duration of the project which will ensure the smooth, efficient, and timely operation of the Project crews' daily activities. This also leads to affirming that MacKay Contracting delivers the highest quality product and service, and our ability to exceed customers' expectations and improve our safety profile.
Location & Hours:
This role will be located in the Sparwood, B.C. area with operations running 24/7 and possibly having both day and night shifts. This role operates on a variety of work schedules depending on the needs of the Projects, with rotational shifts anywhere from 8–12-hour days. Overtime is paid after eight (8) hours per day or 40 hours per week. Consideration is given to those residing in the Elk Valley.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Perform physical labour at mining and construction sites
- Assist with equipment operator's tasks on job sites
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, debris
- General labourer duties, which may include but is not limited to, loading, unloading or identifying building materials, machinery, tools and/or supplies, and distributing them to the appropriate locations according to project plans or specifications, digging trenches, etc.
- Set-up and pull-down equipment and conduct inspections before and after the job
- Erect and/or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades ramps or other temporary structures
- Operate hand and power tools of all types
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement or adjustment of machinery, equipment and/or materials; includes the use of appropriate hand signals.
- Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication from operators, ground personnel and labourers, and act accordingly
- Maintain a safe and orderly job site: Recognize existing and potential hazards and identify these through conducting a field level pre-job hazard analysis
- Participate in all team and safety meetings
- Assist with performing mechanical inspections and servicing including controls and operations, completing logbooks, performing minor maintenance and adjustments, ensuring good housekeeping, and perform machine fueling and lubrication within your skillset
- Adhere to all MacKay Contracting safety practices and policies
- Perform additional duties as may be assigned
- Daily completion and submission of daily timecards
- Willing to work flexible hours and shifts
