Position Summary:
The Camp Leader will work under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator to plan and deliver Ulnooweg's summer camp programs. During the event, they will be the primary support for youth and camp counselors. They are responsible for preparing activities and resolving unexpected problems they may encounter. Creating a safe and fun environment for youth to learn and play is at the center of this role
The advanced education camps are offered at a variety of sites across Mi'kma'ki.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to camp participant.
  • Craft engaging and relevant activity plans.
  • Offer guidance to camp staff.
  • Enforce rules with a sensitive and inclusive approach.
  • Resolve conflicts through empathetic lens.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Coordinate camp operations with cultural awareness
  • Collaborate with the Camp Coordinator to manage event bookings and logistics.
  • Connect meaningfully with everyone at the camp.
  • Organize and coordinate travel arrangements for staff, participants guests and partners.
  • Facilitate the development of valuable skills for camp participants.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or educational setting.
  • Experience working directly with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers and youth.
  • Ongoing or completed post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR an asset.
  • Must be between age of 15 and 30 (Subsidy requirement).
  • Class 5 vehicle license is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • 24/7 availability may be required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75lb.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with working in a seasonal program setting.
  • Long hours, shift work
  • Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, squatting, and bending.
  • May perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and inclement weather.
