SYLVIS has an opening for an Environmental Technician to join our team in Calgary, Alberta for the Operational Season (to October 31, 2024). We are looking for a safety inclined, energetic, independent, and proactive team player. Some key qualities include adaptability, strong communication skills, and field experience.

What will Our Environmental Technician do?

You will work with our team of professionals out of our Calgary, Alberta office. You will assist in implementing our operational project requirements in both the field and our office. You are a self-starter, enthusiastic, and a contributor in dynamic environments, working equally well to accomplish specific tasks either alone or in a team. You are known for your organization, work ethic, and can-do attitude.

In this position you will perform the following:

  • Supervise biosolids deliveries to field sites and associated activities
  • Environmental sampling and record field data
  • Vegetation management activities such as weed trimming
  • Adhere to the safety system requirements at all times
  • Mapping and spatial analysis with ArcGIS
  • Data entry and other office support
  • General labour activities
  • Clean sampling and field equipment

What do you need to succeed in this role?

Our business is built on its technical expertise, its exceptional customer service, and a team-based approach. To excel in this position, you need to be prepared to deliver outstanding service by drawing on your education and previous experience. You:

  • Have a technical diploma or degree in environmental science, horticulture, biology, or forestry
  • Are proficient with ArcGIS mapping software
  • Have experience driving in off-road conditions and pulling a trailer (or willingness to be trained)
  • Have experience operating equipment such as gas-powered trimmers, mowers, and small tractors
  • Are able to travel and work alone (valid driver's licence required)
  • Have your own means of transportation to commute to the office and field sites
  • Are physically fit and able to complete repetitive tasks such as soil sampling
  • Experience working with pesticides is an asset
  • Experience working with organic residuals such as manure, biosolids, or compost is an asset
