The Opportunity
Working as a member of the Civil crew, the Gradesman is responsible for the safe and efficient shooting of grades for civil construction pipe projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work safely on a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings
- Work with the Foreman and the crew to establish daily layouts and setups
- Set elevations and grades for roads, underground utilities, and other needs
- Read drawings and check for completeness or errors, produce accurate as-built drawings.
- Proficient use and maintenance of different types of levels and survey equipment, including storage of equipment at end of day.
- Ensure all elevations are noted at end of the day in preparation for the next day or future work.
- Maintain complete field notes and analyze results, prepare reports as needed.
- Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
- Train other employees and maintain quality results of work
- Support other crew members on daily site activities outside of job scope
Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
- Civil construction pipe grading experience
- Previous construction experience
- Knowledge in elevations and grades for site grading, installing pipe and road construction
- Able to read and understand engineering drawing and instructions
- Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
- Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all of shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
- Flexible with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed
- Willingness to learn and have a good work ethic
