Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Designer will be required to design intelligent automation systems utilizing robotics for the heavy metals and wood industries. The designer will be required to design tools and machinery in compliance with customer specifications.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesWork with the project team and customers to generate machine layouts.
Perform as built drawing and supporting documentation updates.
Assisting in the development of new product opportunities.
Participate in project review meetings.
Prepare and review engineering submittals.
Support Sales with new applications assistance.
Design equipment to meet customer specifications.
Support project installations onsite ensuring they meet overall safety, reliability, and performance.
Assist shop assembly with technical assistance when required.
Occasional travel to wood or metal mills within North America may be required.
Prepare machinery reports, manuals, and other supporting documentation.
Use Solidworks to create new designs, communicate ideas, and/or document as-built details.
· College or university degree or diploma in mechanical engineering
Experience with industrial robots is an asset
Hands-on experience in machining, fabrication, or construction
Basic knowledge of fluid power systems, fittings, and components
3D CAD modeling experience; Solidworks preferred
Typing skills, Microsoft Office
Strong communication skills
