Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Manager, Joint Venture Accounting, the Senior Joint Venture Accountant is responsible for the management of Joint Venture Billings, Joint Venture Audits, Acquisition and Divesture Accounting, Field Cost Allocations and Accounts Receivables. This position will ensure that Sinopec is billed or reimbursed accurately for their working interest in Joint Operated properties.

The Senior Joint Venture Accountant will be based out of Sinopec Canada's head office in Calgary, Alberta and offers a hybrid office schedule, with the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Handle operated joint venture billing queries and disputes in a timely manner.
  • Promptly collect accounts receivable while maintaining good relationships with joint venture partners.
  • Perform monthly joint venture accounts analysis and prepare monthly accounts receivable reports and action plan items.
  • Conduct and coordinate operated and non-operated joint venture audits and ensue timely query resolution.
  • Coordinate the field cost allocation process in collaboration with the field and other departments.
  • Prepare interim and final statement of adjustments in collaboration with the Land and JV Operations department.
  • Review and book non-operated joint venture billings, equalizations, and 13th month adjustment invoices.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities across the joint venture accounting team.
  • Coordinate field queries and ensuring timely response and resolution.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as required.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Comprehensive understanding of complex oil and gas accounting.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Result oriented and ability to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify risks and issues.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and advanced knowledge of MS Excel is required.
  • Previous experience with QByte, CS Explorer, AFE Navigator, Energylink and Petrinex is an asset.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting or Business.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas joint venture accounting.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
