We build and operate fast, reliable fiber networks so rural Canada can thrive, and we are currently looking for a Junior GIS Analyst to compliment our growing Design Team in achieving this.

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Senior GIS Analyst, the Junior GIS Analyst will work closely with internal decision-makers, business development professionals, project managers, OSP designers, and coordinators to gather, extract, clean, map, and create informative and succinct pieces of spatial data and diagrams. The Junior GIS Analyst will help synthesize mapping and GIS data needs for potential, preliminary, existing, and constructed Fiber Optic network projects. The Junior GIS Analyst will also assist others across multiple departments with their GIS needs throughout the lifecycle of various fiber optic projects and processes.

Key Organizational Responsibilities/Accountabilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Gathering, cleaning, updating, and processing GIS and spatial data.
  • Assisting other professionals across various departments with their GIS needs including but not limited to: creating maps, data layers, parsing and summarizing data, and deciphering spatial information.
  • Creating informative and concise maps, diagrams, data layers, summaries, and tables for middle and senior management personnel and decision-makers.
  • Designing conceptual and draft fiber optic networks used for decision making purposes.
  • Maintaining and updating GIS systems, automated processes, and dashboards.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in GIS or related field; OR proven aggregate work experience doing GIS/spatial data analysis.
  • 0 to 2 years experience editing, gathering, and generally using GIS and spatial data.
  • Proven ability to gather, extract, analyze, summarize, and map out spatial information.
    • NOTE: Please provide 3-4 maps in PDF or JPEG form showcasing your cartographic abilities along with any supplementary diagrams or writeups describing your processes.
  • Familiarity of various spatial data forms such as KML files, SHP files, CAD files, JSON files, GDB files, among others.
  • Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro and familiarity with ESRI suite of applications and tools.
  • Proficient computer skills & knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications including Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
  • Effective communication skills, confidence in interacting with key internal and external contacts at all levels in verbal, written and electronic form.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem solver.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects successfully; prioritize work and requests.

Preferred Skills:

  • 2+ years experience in a GIS role (analyst, coordinator, technician, programmer, etc.).
  • 2+ years experience handling GIS/CAD data and using GIS/CAD software.
  • Proficiency using Python, Arcade, R, and SQL coding languages.
  • Telecommunication experience especially with Fiber Optics. OSP fiber optic design experience.
  • Previous experience working in design/drafting, engineering, or business environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

Schedule:
