Horizon is looking for a Fleet Manager!


This position is responsible for completing all maintenance and mechanical work on the company's fleet of trucks, mobile equipment, and small engines, as well as all administration associated with service intervals, filing of repairs, and updating the company's tracking sheets. This role oversees the work of yard assistants, 1 yard/fleet coordinator and 1 Apprentice mechanic. Working across three regions Lower Mainland, Squamish, and Kelowna.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on gas and diesel trucks, trailers, and mobile equipment such as skid steers, excavators, and backhoes
  • Conduct and oversee maintenance and repairs on small engines including mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order
  • Make decisions concerning work methods for assigned jobs
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive relationships with customers and coworkers
  • Enforce safety regulations to meet COR and WCB requirements
  • Ensuring all fleet vehicles are CVSE compliant and all inspections are up to date on an annal and bi-annual basis. This includes All trucks and trailers
  • Evaluate completed work and complete required paperwork and reports promptly
  • Attend safety meetings and pursue ongoing education sponsored by the Company
  • Defleeting of retiring units, working to get the best return of units
  • Monthly visits to regional divisions to aid in smooth operation and repairs as required
  • Participate in Company-sponsored events and maintain its culture and core values

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Significant trades education or equivalent experience
  • Red Seal in heavy equipment and/or automotive maintenance preferred
  • HTE certification an asset

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years' industry experience with management experience
  • Clean Driver's Abstract

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in small and medium-sized equipment mechanics, truck and light trailer mechanics, and small engine repairs
  • Experience with heavy-duty mechanics (e.g., arborist lift trucks, hydrovac)
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs and real-time payroll software
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to develop and implement schedules and systems for equipment maintenance
  • Forecasting budgets and ordering required equipment
  • Effective time and self-management skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity with frequent bending, stretching, and lifting (30-60 lbs)
  • Ability to stand, sit, crouch, and walk for extended periods

Work Environment:

  • Mostly outdoor setting with occasional indoor work in office or shop environments
  • Work may occur in extreme weather conditions

Compensation Information:

  • Starting base wage of $110,000-$120,000 based on experience
  • 4 weeks of paid time off (3 weeks vacation, 1 week sick/personal days)
  • Vacation days available immediately and prorated for the first year
  • Sick days available after 90 days of employment
  • Extended Health Benefits at 90 Days
