Salary: $85,000

Position Summary:

As the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining financial and management procedures for KCR Community Resources. You will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to agency and charity regulations. Additionally, you will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to ensure adequate resource acquisition for the maintenance and development of services in support of our charitable aims.

Reports to the Executive Director

Prime Functions:

Preparation and Reporting

  • Ensures all financial accounts are properly maintained including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll as well as other financial records required by the Executive Director, and Society's auditors
  • Prepare and present annual fiscal year agency budgets before the 31st of March of each year
  • Review and update medium and long-range budgets as requested by the Executive Director, including trend analysis and forecasts
  • Prepare and distribute program specific variance reports to managers on a quarterly basis
  • Prepare and submit required financial and statutory reporting to funding bodies on the schedule determined by each funding body
  • Prepare documentation to support the agencies annual financial audit
  • Prepare all required financial documentation and other reports for external parties such as Gaming applications and reporting, CRA (including annual filing), WCB, EHT, private and government agencies, etc.

Planning and Monitoring

  • Ensures banking, investment and other asset controls are adequate and deposits maintained on a timely basis
  • Ensure that accounting internal controls are reviewed and maintained in accordance with internal policy and auditor's recommendations
  • Act as liaison to the benefits carrier and communicate information on benefits to staff
  • Ensure payroll and related payroll functions are in place to ensure accurate and timely payment to staff according to internal policy and employment standards
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with all relevant legal requirements, awareness and compliance of all government legislation including changes to tax or labour legislation, Canada Revenue Agency requirements and requirements for provincial legislation governing non-profit organizations
  • Maintains documentation and filing of reports for corporate, personnel and material resources
  • In an organizational role, participates positively and productively as a member of the management team and maintains all Board, personnel and Society business in strictest confidence
  • Ensures reporting to the Registrar of Companies is accurate and timely
  • Supervision of finance staff

Agency and Executive Director Support

  • Participates positively and productively as a member of the management team and maintains all Board Personnel and Society business in strictest confidence
  • Make recommendations to improve or maintain the Financial Section of the Policy and Procedures Manual
  • Assist and act as a resource to Managers in the preparation of budgets and prepare costing/revenue projections on proposals and grant applications
  • Prepare, Review and update medium and long-range budgets as requested by the Executive Director, including rend analysis and forecasts
  • Prepares and analyses monthly written financial reports for meetings of the Board of Directors, to be approved by the Executive Director and Treasurer, for distribution by the Thursday preceding the Board meeting
  • Undertakes other related duties as directed by the Executive Director

Supervision Responsibilities

  • Supervise all staff involved in handling KCR receipts in the form of cheques, cash and credit card payments
  • Supervise all staff responsible for processing payroll, coding payroll expenses and issuing Records of Employment
  • Supervision of all staff regarding the proper calculation and payment of employment benefits such as RRSP, BC Medical and extended health/insurance benefits and the proper recovery of the employee portion of said extended health/insurance benefits
  • Supervision of all staff responsible for new benefit registrations, adjusting existing benefits, adjusting the employee cost of changes in benefits and de-registering employees from benefit plans
  • Supervision of all staff creating and maintaining the various Excel files that forms the basis of KCR's accounting system

Qualifications:

  • An accounting designation or combination of College/University financial training
  • Extensive knowledge in the operations and legal requirements of NPOs
  • Minimum two years of experience in a senior financial management role including general ledger maintenance, financial statements, budgeting and financial analysis
  • Minimum of two years' experience in payroll and benefits administration
  • Familiar with computerized accounting systems including SAGE Accounting and Microsoft Office software applications (with advanced knowledge of Excel)
  • Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information and produce clear verbal and written reports
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • CPA designation or an equivalent accounting designation is preferred

Temporary Leave Coverage:

This position is temporary and will cover an 18-month maternity leave.
