General Purpose of this Position:

The Engineer provides safe, "Best for Project" solutions for complex projects, while ensuring regulatory compliance for all engineering deliverables. The Engineer is responsible for collaborating with other disciplines and team members, completion and storage of all necessary calculations, review and knowledge of all pertinent codes and standards, review of engineering deliverables to ensure adherence to their requirements, planning and monitoring of quality assurance requirements, checking and stamping the work of EIT's, peer review, maintenance, and continuous improvement of their technical skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Health and Safety

  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide mechanical engineering group level of effort estimates for proposal submissions.
  • As requested, attend technical conferences, representing Cementations capabilities, and attending seminars that will further Cementation's knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to produce "Best for Project" designs that are safe, reflect the client's operability requirements first, and are constructible.
  • Actively participate in the development of Engineers in Training, providing technical direction and mentorship.
  • Lead the maintenance and development of departmental standards as assigned, ensuring conformance with current codes, standards, and mining regulations.
  • As assigned, develop, and implement and use Discipline Specific standards include specifications, design basis and criteria templates, design spreadsheets, workflow procedures, change management forms.
  • Provide direction and supervision of Engineers in Training, including technical review of work, compliance with company and regulatory standards, codes, and regulations. Approve and stamp their work.
  • In collaboration with other Discipline Leads and reflecting project requirements, prepare Scope of Work technical descriptions as appropriate for Procurement packages, including references to appropriate design documents.
  • Identify Long Lead Procurement items, understand current industry delivery periods, and provide technical and scope of work documents collaborating with Procurement Team in the issuance of procurement packages to ensure that project schedule is met.
  • Provide technical assistance during tender periods to answer questions, assess vendor packages and recommend winning bidder.
  • Provide technical assistance during the fabrication/manufacturing period, providing Procurement Team with technical information and support to ensure that Client and Project requirements are met.
  • As required, attend design review meetings, answering questions related to design basis and criteria.
  • At Conceptual stage, make recommendations on basic type or style of system (mechanical or electrical equipment or structure) then collaborate with Designers to pre-select designs from Cementation's existing portfolio of projects.
  • Select Mechanical Systems, Components Equipment and Design Piping systems, completing all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, regulations, special industry guidelines, company, and Client standards.
  • Participate in Design Reviews, ensuring that regulatory, safety and client operability requirements are met, and collaborating with Operations to ensure that the plant will be built in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.
  • At various project phases, participate in Risk Assessments, identifying and mitigating risks that are deemed to be unacceptable.
  • Prepare technical reports related to trade-off studies or other assigned engineering reports, in a professional and effective communication manner.
  • During construction, assess and provide technical recommendations in response to Field enquiries.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance shop or on-site reviews of fabricated or constructed work to assure that Quality Control measures have effectively delivered work that complies with regulatory, Cementation and Client requirements.
  • Complete general reviews of Erection and Shop drawings to assure compliance with project requirements and sufficient coordination at interfaces to other vendor supplied items, and to Cementation designed items.
  • Through the fabrication and construction phases, actively participate in assuring that all tests, inspections, and measurements mandated by regulation or by the Engineer-of-Record have been completed and satisfied.
  • This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, may be assigned by management.

  • Experience in the design and engineering of underground mining material handling systems would be considered an asset.
  • Good knowledge of underground mining infrastructure.
  • Good working knowledge and skills in the following software:
  • 3-D parametric or associative design software.
  • Recognized 3D FEA analysis software.
  • CAESAR Pipe Stress Analysis Software or other recognized software.
  • Other mechanical engineering analysis software.
  • MS Office Suite, MS Project.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree or equivalent, accredited by Professional Engineer's Ontario, or other Canadian Professional Engineering body.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineer's Ontario, or other Canadian Professional Engineering body.
  • Experience in Industrial piping and HVAC systems.
  • Previous relevant work experience in Mining or Heavy Construction.
  • Minimum 7 to 15 years of relevant experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position has the requirement for occasional travel to our project sites and offices.
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.
  • Travel may include overseas assignments.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

  • Has no direct reports, however, will direct, oversee, check, and stamp the work of EIT's.

Cementation Americas has successfully implemented a hybrid work schedule in all our Corporate Offices. All office staff have the option of remote work Mondays and Fridays, while working the balance of the week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) in the office.
