Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Barrett Centre - Integrated Health Team

Accountable to the Director of Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes - Barrett Centre, the Mental Health Clinician is a member of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team working in alignment with the Housing First philosophy and principles of harm reduction and trauma-informed care.

You will provide services to individuals and families affiliated with the Reaching Home program and others impacted by mental health issues, substance use and housing precarity/ homelessness.

Care will be provided in a variety of office, home and community settings. All services provided will support clients in achieving housing stability, improving quality of life, and optimizing health and well-being. You will also provide mental health intervention including counselling, referral and advocacy.


What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in a related health or human services field (social work, nursing)
  • Experience providing counseling, case management and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing mental health challenges and impacted by poverty, homelessness, substance use criminalization, social isolation etc.
  • Commitment to and experience working within a harm reduction framework
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills, with well- developed problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of community resources, social and environmental determinants of health, evidence-informed practices in working with child, adolescent and adult mental health
  • Current knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and P.H.I.P.A.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in French and/or another language in addition to English an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and alignment with the mission and values of Good Shepherd
  • Valid Ontario driver's license
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
