General Foreperson - Civil

ROLE SUMMARY

The General Foreperson plays an integral role and is accountable for civil personnel on site and supporting the Superintendent in completing the project within the approved schedule, achieving goals for the project and ensuring that the required standards of quality are attained.

The General Foreperson manages all day-to-day project progress, with a focus on field time management, coordination of schedules, resolving potential risks and/or challenges. This role reports directly to the Senior Superintendent and is in frequent communication with key stakeholders such as the subcontractors and site staff.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Team Management

  • Effectively communicate with the team and site staff, and leading daily foreman meetings to discuss daily priorities and objectives
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with client representatives, subcontractors, suppliers, and labour force, performing tasks in coordination with other contractors as required
  • Advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences, or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing/resolving such conflicts
  • Carefully track SBW employee timesheets, submitted to head office in line with payroll schedule(s)

Trades and Technical

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and sketches to determine technical and site requirements
  • Complete knowledge of excavations, underground utilities, sheet piling and pipe piling.
  • Effectively follow oral and written instruction such as email direction, manufacturing manuals, engineering specifications, construction sketches, and other applicable specifications and codes
  • Assist senior staff in calculating quantity estimates and perform layouts and benchmarks
  • Operate required instruments such as builder's levels and laser levels

Safety

  • Demonstrates leadership in the application of the SBW Safety Program to promote overall compliance of safety standards, applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes with all employees and subcontractors
  • Ensure that the public is informed, aware and protected of any hazards in the area

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have diverse experience with excavation and utility projects
  • Knowledge of sheet pile and pipe pile installations
  • Supervisor training
  • Valid Driver's License
  • WHMIS
  • Level 2 First Aid - preferred
  • Workforce supervision from 10 to 50 site staff
  • Project scheduling

Computer Knowledge

  • Microsoft applications: Basic Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Demonstrated use of health and safety management sites and forms

Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Gold Seal Certification – Foreman an Asset
