DescriptionSenior z/OS Software Developer
Preferred hiring locations is Toronto/Brampton, Canada

As a key member of a dynamic team, you will develop, enhance, and maintain document print and image file conversion, manipulation, and data mining software. Development is done for all major platforms including Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX and z/OS. To work in this fast paced, dynamic, and demanding environment you must be an exceptional C/C++ programmer.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Expert knowledge of z/OS and IBM assembler language
• Design and develop portable software using C/C++ in Windows, z/OS, Linux, and UNIX environments.
• Develop new software as well as enhancing existing systems.
• Work with distributed systems.
• Trouble shoots software problems and analyzes reasons for failure, corrects software deficiencies and develops enhancements as necessary.
• Work within specifications provided to meet programming assignment goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner.
• Takes independent action to correct problems encountered during execution within authority level granted by manager.
• Demonstrate ability to prioritize conflicting demands and execute assigned projects tasks within established schedule, recognize processing/programming inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
• Aid in documentation of new programs and enhancements made to existing programs.
• Aid in test case creation, preparation of test data and analyze program results and performance.
• Must be willing to be on call as needed and work weekends to cover software failure on production programs or new applications behind schedule.
• Other duties as assigned/required.

SKILLS

• 360/390 assembler programming for z/OS
• Software development for z/OS
• Strong debugging and trouble shooting skills on z/OS
• Knowledge of system design methodologies, techniques and standards.
• Comfortable programming in a production environment.

BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE:

• Cross platform programming/debugging with C/C++ for z/OS, Windows, Linux and UNIX platforms.
• IP Networking programming
• Print streams such as AFP, PDF, PostScript, etc.
• Java and JNI, .Net and/or C#
• SQL and/or NoSQL Databases
• Font processing
• Image processing

WORK EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION & BENEFITSWORK EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years of professional experience designing developing enterprise software on z/OS
• Experience with software design patterns
• Experience with large projects and can work well as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt to alternate technologies as required
• Comfortable programming in a production environment

EDUCATION

• Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or closely related field or equivalent combination and/or experience in related field.
