Under the leadership of the Art Director/BG Supervisor, the 2D Background Painter creates the final look of Painted Backgrounds for the show that support the overall creative vision for the story based on the determined style of the project.
In this role you will:
- Paints backgrounds, layouts and any other background-related art using Photoshop ensuring the style and quality of the show are met and maintained.
- Working closely with BG Paint Supervisor to find the best solutions for technical challenges.
- Create background paintings based on color script
- Review BG Keys to ensure continuity of brush style and color palette
- Complete all color work within assigned deadlines.
- Creating background paintings in the correct form, layered correctly with appropriate layout provided guides intact and ready for scene planning and animation.
Need to have:
- A keen eye for the aesthetic needs as well as diverse visual development styles as required by the project.
- Working knowledge of perspective and composition. Strong drawing, illustration and painting skills.
- Has a strong understanding of the needs of the show and the pipeline to allow the Designer to proactively anticipate issues and suggest solutions.
- Strong knowledge of colour and colour styling.
- Proficiency using Photoshop is required. Familiarity with ToonBoom Harmony is a strong asset.

Nice to have:
- Degree and/or diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience is preferred.
- 2-3+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline.
