SUMMARY: The role of a Universal CNC Grinder Machinist is to set-up and operate a CNC controlled universal grinder (Studer) to remove material, from metallic components, to achieve the specifications outlined on provided drawings or part models.

Friday to Sunday 3:30 pm to 4:00 am.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to run and program a CNC universal grinder to grind metal parts to achieve a prescribed dimensional result.
  • Mount, balance and dress grinding wheels.
  • Interprets sketches, drawings, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances for the universal grinding operation.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of grind.
  • Matches and identifies stack components and records pre-loads.
  • Complete in-process dimensional quality checks, using micrometers, heights gauges and precision fixtures and record these dimensional either manually or within a computer-generated spreadsheet.
  • Use various hand tools as required.
  • Set up components for the safe removal of material.
  • Operate an overhead crane to lift and set pieces on the machine.
  • Ability to select, align and secure holding fixtures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Complete prescribed preventive maintenance to the CNC universal grinder.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TECHNICAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Post-Secondary education – Diploma or Certificate in General Machining/CNC Programming preferred
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably operating a universal CNC grinder (Studer).
  • Knowledge of CNC and Manual set up of grinding machines
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawing sizes and tolerances.
  • Ability to operate machinery in an efficient manner to achieve quality expectations.
