The Opportunity

We are currently looking to hire a Lead Child and Youth Care Worker in Edmonton, AB. This will be a Permanent Full-time opportunity. Reporting to Supervisor, Service Delivery, the Child and Youth Care Worker serves to guide children and youth to achieve personal success by nurturing their physical, social, cultural, and emotional well-being. This position will be based out Edmonton.

Hours of Work & Location:

Full-time (40 hours/week)

  • 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
  • 6 on, 3 off

What You'll Do

  • Provide daily updates to the Program Managers and Program Supervisors to ensure smooth communication and issues management.
  • Provide the reporting of critical incidents as they arise to the Program Supervisor to ensure all incidents are managed according to standards and protocols.
  • Engage in goal planning with the client and support the client in finding success.
  • Maintain client records on-site to meet compliance standards. Complete and maintain records of daily activities, observations, and direct hours of service.
  • Compile data for Case team meetings or stakeholder reporting and submit it to the Program Supervisor.
  • Involve in Program Planning (Recreation planning, Life skills, Cultural, Community Connections).
  • Facilitate client day programming activities (school, employment, and volunteering).
  • Book and attend various medical appointments (dental, optical, psychiatry).
  • Coordinate school or day programming and report to the supervisor.
  • Attend legal appointments and required follow-up.
  • Audit first aid supplies and complete inventory list to submit to supervisor monthly.
  • Create a menu, keep track of inventory, and maintain a shopping/grocery list weekly.
  • Establish a relationship to guide and support youth through mentorship, role modelling, and positive reinforcement
  • Supervise youth at home and in the community
  • Complete and maintain documentation of daily activities and observations
  • Participate in the Care Team through the ongoing development of care plans and programs
  • Perform routine housekeeping activities

Who You Are

As a Lead Child and Youth Care Worker, you possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Direct experience working with youth with complex behavioural and mental health needs
  • Knowledge of child and youth care mental wellness practices
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures for providing effective home care
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures for maintaining records and completing forms.
  • Work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Is personally committed to and actively works to continuously improve, with the ability for self-monitoring and assessment and making adjustments to service to maximize effectiveness.
  • Quickly generate and discuss the ideas and alternatives on a subject, carefully identifying the pros and cons of each alternative course of action.
  • Trauma Informed Care practices
  • Six (6) months of related experience working with youth
  • Completion of Degree/Diploma in Human Services field
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level CPR + AED
  • Police Information Check; including Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 3 months)
  • Children Services Intervention Record Check (within the last 3 months)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, current drivers abstract, a reliable vehicle and auto insurance would be assets
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and technology skills

Training related to the following is considered an important asset:

  • Suicide Prevention
  • Mental Health First Aid
