Canada Building Materials (CBM), formed in 1930, is the building materials division of St. Marys Cement Inc., with ready-mix and aggregate operations across Ontario and Quebec. CBM is a subsidiary of Votorantim Cimentos.

CBM is comprised of two divisions - CBM Ready-Mix, delivering high-quality ready-mix concrete to a variety of customers, and CBM Aggregates who produces sand, gravel, and stone to an ever-growing market.

STUDENT - TECHNICAL SERVICES (FIELD)

Length: 8 Months (April/May-December 2024)

Rate of Pay: $19.50 per hour

Location: Peterborough, ON or Kingston, ON

Status: Temporary Full Time

Travel: Various - Company Truck Provided

License: G2 or G Class Drivers License

Working within CBM's Ready-Mix division, the Student - Technical Services will assist in managing the quality of ready-mix concrete while promoting products, concrete knowledge, and the company image to customers. This position is ideal for a student looking to gain exposure in the construction or building materials industry!

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Visits job sites, performs ongoing CSA & ASTM concrete and raw materials testing. Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Promotes value-added products, collects market and job information.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or productions standards or procedures.
  • Reviews and supervises the work of 3rd party Concrete Testing Services.
  • Safe operation of company vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a related post-secondary program, such as Civil Engineering Technician (CET) or similar
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Fundamental knowledge of computer software (Windows, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks outside
  • Valid Ontario G2 or G Class Drivers License and clear 3-year abstract
  • Ability to operate a pick-up truck
  • 18 years of age or older
