OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Decommissioning Superintendent. This person will be responsible for the direction of laborer crews on decommissioning projects under the guidance of a Site Supervisor. They will assist in monitoring progress, and ensuring task objectives and safety standards are met. This involves providing guidance, addressing issues, and maintaining clear lines of communication. The right candidate will play a vital role in executing the Supervisor's plan, while focusing on their assigned groups' performance and safety. This role also includes providing manual and physical support to complete various decom tasks including the operation of hand tools and equipment.

The ideal candidate will also assist with the upkeep, repair, maintenance, and storage of the division's vehicles, trailers, machinery, and tools. This could include routine inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance ensuring that the fleet operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. They will also assist the team in managing inventories of other essential gear including PPE and other safety equipment and assist in keeping machinery in optimal working condition to support the organization's operations.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

· 3-5 years of facility and pipeline construction or decommissioning experience.

· Ability to give directions and assist other employees in various decommissioning tasks.

· Comfortable working in environments with pressure, electricity, other utilities, and below ground infrastructure.

· Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to drive up to 2-ton trucks safely.

· Clean driving record and understanding of commercial driving requirements (scales, logs, CVIPS).

· Ability to work with hand tools and perform physically demanding work.

· Previous experience with pipelines pigging, air compressors and blowdown tanks is an asset.

· Previous experience in operating picker trucks, skid steers, and backhoes is an asset.

· Safety Tickets including First Aid and CPR, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance, TDG, WHMIS, CSO, CSTS is an asset.

· Fluency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

· Excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

· Positive attitude and collaborative approach to problem solving.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee laborers' day to day tasks under the direction of site supervisor, training staff when required.

· Ensure work being completed by laborers is being done correctly.

· Promote a “Safety First” culture within the field-based decommissioning crews.

· Troubleshoot field problems and collaborate with on-site Supervisor.

· Ensure regular vehicle maintenance is completed on all equipment and tools including replacement.

· Conduct preventive maintenance to proactively identify and address potential issues with equipment.

· Inspect trucks before and after projects to ensure consistency.

· Organize and store equipment when not being used.

· Keep an organized inventory of parts, tools, and equipment to ensure trucks and equipment are job ready.

· Ensure Personal Protective Equipment is returned and organized post project.

· Ensure tools in proper working order and maintain pre/during/post project.

· Complete and submit safe travel plans to the Supervisor.

· Provide input on crew and equipment selection to maximize field productivity.

· Ensuring work is being completed as per SOP/JHA and in a safe manner.

· Perform general labor tasks alongside labor crews when required.

LOCATION

This position will be based in the Edmonton Area and candidates must be willing and able to travel to other Vertex offices (Sherwood Park, Nisku, Calmar, Whitecourt) and remote work sites.
