Our client is looking for a Sr. Biologist to join their growing team.
Responsibilities:
  • Remain current with environmental legislation and regulatory updates, provide updated information as it becomes available to their direct supervisors and the applicable project teams.
  • Research and implement technical practices and advancements pertaining to Biological service offerings including but not limited to, regulatory permitting and liaison, habitat classification, terrestrial biology, aquatic biology, wetland assessment, vegetation assessment and monitoring, wildlife management and mitigation planning, wildlife capture and recovery, and wildlife deterrents and hazing.
  • Research and implement technical practices and advancements pertaining to Spill Response service offerings including but not limited to, regulatory permitting and liaison, initial assessment, receptor identification, sampling and monitoring, conceptual site modeling, ecological risk assessment, post-spill remediation and surface restoration, low impact spill response tactics, shoreline cleanup assessment techniques, and emergency preparedness planning.
  • Client and regulator interface on a technical capacity.
  • Senior review and development of technical products and deliverables, such as technical report templates, spill response plans and scopes of work, field documents and company standard operating procedures as they pertain to increasing technical capacity.
  • Assisting with the implementation, training, and maintenance of procedures (field and reporting) and project deliverables specific to Biological services.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate and contribute to the Response Technical Committee as a subject matter expert in the field of Biology.
  • Elevate client's technical capacity allowing the organization to identify opportunities to obtain work that may be currently outside of our existing level of competency.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of internal and external training materials to support business development goals.
  • Participate in the creation and presentation of technical proposal submissions.
  • Attend industry, client, and company events as required and/or requested.
  • Provide presentations at technical seminars as a representative of the company.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
  • 10 years of relevant technical project experience in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
  • Maintain compliance with company and client's safety training requirements
  • Maintain compliance with the company's minimum training requirements for this position including Incident Command System 100 (ICS100), WCSS Spill Responder Series 100 (SR100), WCSS Spill Responder Series 200 (SR200), WCSS Spill Responder Series 300 (SR300), WCSS Spill Responder Series 400 (SR400), WCSS Spill Responder Series 500 (SR500), and any additional training requested by direct supervisor
  • Professional designation with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists, and the Association of Professional Biology in British Columbia.
  • Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) and Qualified Wetland Science Practitioner (QWSP).
Health, Safety and Environmental (HSEQ) Requirements:
  • Reviewing and adhering to the company HSEQ policies and procedures as directed by the HSEQ Manager.
  • Complying with policy, rules, standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Correcting hazards as soon as they are observed.
  • Immediately reporting to supervisory personnel all incidents, injuries/illnesses, near misses/hazard ID's.
  • Using equipment and tools (including rentals) as per manufacturer's specifications and SOPs.
  • Knowing the location, type and operation of emergency equipment and being familiar with site-specific emergency procedures.
  • Refusing to perform work that poses an imminent danger and/or refusing to perform work they are not qualified to perform; and
  • Participating in workplace inspections, monthly safety inspections and meetings as directed by the HSEQ Manager.
