POSITION:
Program Facilitator CAPC (Community Action Program for Children) - Social Services
LOCATION
: Barrie with travel throughout Simcoe County


PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Program Facilitator works closely with the Site Coordinator, Program Manager, staff, and community partners to address the needs of marginalized, pregnant individuals and families living in low-income with young children 0-6 years. They provide inclusive, welcoming, safe, and non-judgemental environments for vulnerable families.

The successful candidate will work well as part of a team but also independently. The role requires empathy and a passion for supporting families, working collaboratively with community partners, and a strong belief in social justice and inclusion.


STATEMENT OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Facilitation

  • Deliver CAPC/CPNP core (MotherCare and Next Step) and time limited programs weekly with team members and community partners (e.g., public health, dietitian, mental health, early years)
  • Provide a mix of virtual (zoom) and in-person programming.
  • Share Early Childhood Education expertise to support CAPC team and parents in understanding child growth and development.
  • Foster active engagement in programs
  • Build participant confidence and self-advocacy skills to improve access to services beyond CAPC.
  • Partner with the community regarding program space, staffing and resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of risk and protective factors that contribute to Early Mental Health and Development
  • Maintain program statistics and records, as required.

Community Collaboration and Development

  • Work collaboratively with team members and community partners including EarlyON Centres, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, mental health providers, County of Simcoe LEAP program, Bradford Immigrant Community Services (BICS), Registered Dietitian, Food Workers, among others.
  • Provide outreach to potential program participants in a variety of community settings including food banks, shelters, community centers, public libraries, community health centers etc.
  • Advocate for the CAPC program and families we serve.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university in a related Social Services field, i.e., ECE, Social Work, Community Development, and 3 years of related experience.


Knowledge and/or Skill Level

  • A strong understanding of key social issues including infant and early mental health, child development, nutrition, food insecurity, poverty, housing, and homelessness.
  • Knowledge of community resources, the Early Years system, services and supports for low-income, and Newcomer families.
  • Experienced in group facilitation working with parents and children 0-6 years of age.
  • Comfortable working with multicultural and diverse populations.
  • Culturally sensitive (training in Bridges out of Poverty, Safer Spaces, CCAT, IEMHP Sick Kids, etc.)
  • Food handling training considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and priority setting skills
  • Strong computer and social media skills (e.g., Zoom, TEAMS, MS Office, data collection and management, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Aware of Health & Safety Rules and Regulations
  • A working knowledge of French and/or any additional languages is beneficial.

Valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle
