Permanent Part Time 0.5 FTE

Position Summary:

Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council (KTC) is comprised of the member Nations of: Loon River First Nation – #476, Lubicon Lake Band – #453, Peerless Trout First Nation – #478, Whitefish Lake First Nation – #459 and Woodland Cree First Nation – #474. KTC was formed in 1995 to facilitate joint action by the member Nations on matters of mutual concern.

While there are many similarities between the five (5) KTC member Nations, each has its own unique character and features. All are surrounded by a warmth and beauty rich with culture and traditions of the Cree people.

The Prenatal/Nursing assistant will work to support the Public Health team in providing prenatal education in the communities of Woodland Cree First Nation, Loon River, and Whitefish Lake First Nation. The Prenatal/Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing education within the broad scope of maternal and child health including, group prenatal classes, breastfeeding support, developmental milestone and immunization education. They will collaborate with the Nursing Manager and Maternal Child Health Workers to support community prenatal programming. This position will require travel to the communities combined with working remotely to provide support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide education and teaching to prenatal and postnatal mothers and their families in individual and group settings.
  • Breastfeeding education and support to small groups and individuals
  • Host education sessions for families with children aged 0-6 years to provide information on various health and parenting topics.
  • Liaise with Maternal Child Health Workers to offer pre-natal

Education and Qualifications:

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in a healthcare related
  • Valid and current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Computer literacy – certification and/or training in entry level usage
  • Previous experience working with pre and post-natal clients and maternal child health knowledge is

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • A minimum of three years of experience with maternal child health, labour/delivery, public health nursing or providing pre/post-natal education will be considered an asset.
  • Previous supervisory experience will be considered an
  • Excellent and effective decision-making skills, oral and written communication skills, assessment skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, teaching skills and supervisory skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with other care

  • Possesses valid driver's license and is able to provide a driver's abstract
