Overview:This position will function in a team responsible for the wired and wireless data network and will be required to manage and support all aspects of a complex and diverse infrastructure. This position will maintain the stability and availability of all shipboard and land based wired and wireless networks. The impact of decisions and actions can be company-wide, with potential exposure of confidential and sensitive data.
What you will be doing:
  • Provides technical expertise in the areas of performance management, network administration, bandwidth utilization, capacity planning and complex problem solving
  • Provides support to ensure the stability of the wireless data network through spread spectrum radio (802.11x), cellular, and satellite
  • Provides input into the development of the overall network architecture design and hardware standards
  • Evaluates new technologies and provide recommendations on technical solutions and direction
  • Participates in implementation, verification and acceptance testing of new hardware, software, services or functionality
  • Completes periodic routine maintenance and daily tasks, tracking results and resolving problems
  • Interacts with vendors to upgrade/improve connectivity
  • Directs service providers in the resolution of complex problems
  • Provides technical support in all-aspects of the network environment
  • Ensures the functionality, reliability, and stability of existing systems by ensuring appropriate backup and recovery, disaster recovery, job scheduling, performance monitoring and tuning, and capacity monitoring duties are performed
  • Provide and document procedures to maintain security, confidentiality and industry best practices for the company's technical environment
  • Completes administrative reporting/tracking requirements and provides periodic status updates
  • Works closely with first tier support staff and third party vendors to solve system problems; assisting in the area of server supports
What you must have:
  • Degree or diploma in Computer Systems or an IT related discipline from a recognized university, college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP certifications would be an asset
  • 3 - 5 years of experience building, maintaining and providing support for complex networks in an enterprise environment
  • Excellent understanding of how to efficiently build, maintain and support complex network environments
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco product lines including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless
  • Working knowledge to efficiently install and maintain network communications equipment and cabling, including diagnosing and correcting simple technical problems
  • An excellent understanding of wireless data networks and their associated protocols
  • Working knowledge of VoIP communications systems
  • Strong knowledge of various network security technologies including: Intrusion Prevention/Detection, VPN, Firewalls, NG-FWs
