Job Title: Commercial Real Estate Litigation, ParalegalJob ID: SD190549715Location: Vancouver, BCOverview:Our client is a Canadian law firm with offices in Vancouver and Toronto.   • Prepares court documentation related to strata disputes, commercial collections, default judgements, applications and orders.
  • Drafts, files and serves pleadings, motions and application materials.
  • Drafts and prepares legal motions and pleadings and preparing for court mediation and settlement conferences.
  • Prepares correspondence and a variety of legal documents while ensuring compliance with Rules of Court.
  • Manages file progression including obtaining relevant documentation and managing settlement or issue resolution process.
  • Develops a system to maintain file and task lists for reporting progress to Supervising Lawyer(s).
  • Conducts research of records, court files and other legal documents.
  • Maintains a well-organized work environment and implements efficient processes that minimizes lawyers' administrative load and ensures ease of reference to firm's documents.
  • Performs due diligence of materials and client information to identify deficiencies and material matters.
  • Prepares documents with and without firm precedents according to instructions and information provided by the Supervising Lawyer(s) and information gathered through own research (examples include Petitions, orders Nisi, Notices of Civil Claim, affidavits and Notices of Application).
  • Reviews documents prepared by the Supervising Lawyer for general compliance with the related legislation.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the Firm, client, and employee information.
  • Performs other duties in line with the position.
What you must have:
  • 3-5+ years of intermediate paralegal with litigation, strata disputes, commercial collections, and foreclosure experience.
  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited program.
  • Previous experience with electronic document management systems such as FileSite/iManage.
  • Previous foreclosure and general litigation experience.
  • Experience working within a busy real estate litigation practice is an asset.
  • Strong research and legal analysis skills.
  • Superior organizational/document management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to act independently and confidently make judgment calls and recommendations.
  • Strong ability with the use of Adobe Standard and Adobe DC software required to file Land Title Office documents.
  • Strong familiarity with searching and reviewing Land Title Office documents.
  • Exceptional aptitude for software and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of database management.
  • Excellent ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Sound business judgment including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and a high level of initiative.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • A proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • A strong orientation towards delivering a superior standard of service.
  • A proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Computer knowledge including: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Internet, Case
  • Management and Time tracker software.
