Job Description

Mission

The Senior Electrical Layout Technologist will have a strong understanding of the engineering environment in electrical design of High Voltage/Medium Voltage substations for Utilities and industrial clients and will be working with multi-disciplinary teams to design in accordance with clients' requirements and applicable codes and standards. They will support our Transmission & Distribution, projects throughout British Columbia. This is a hybrid position that will be based out of our Vancouver, BC office.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings and specifications for design of electrical systems including physical layouts (2D and 3D) and installation details of HV and MV substations for utilities and industrial installations
  • Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLD) for electrical systems
  • Perform electrical calculations and equipment sizing for various electrical equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, busbars, etc.
  • Prepare Bill of Material (BOM) for electrical installations
  • Develop equipment specifications for HV and MV equipment procurement and review manufacturers' equipment drawings, perform sizing of power cable and cable tray/trenches routing design
  • Design and calculation of AC and DC auxiliary systems including single line diagram, load calculations, distribution drawings, voltage drop calculations, etc.
  • Participate in planning, scheduling and estimating (engineering and construction), meetings (internal and clients) and be involved in engineering coordination with other disciplines
  • Perform regular documented reviews, maintain monthly progress reports, and issue updates accordingly
  • Occasionally participate in site surveys and commissioning
Qualifications
  • College or Technologist Diploma in Electrical design or related discipline
  • Over 7 years of experience, with focus on T&D projects
  • Ability to work in a project team and with remote partners and maintain effective working relationships with clients and other employees
  • Excellent leadership, positive attitude, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE and Canadian Utility standards
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) skills
  • Available for occasional travel (mostly within Western Canada)

The expected salary for this position is from $65,760.00 to $82,200.00 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate's experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
