LOCATION

This is a flexible/hybrid position with remote work a possibility for the right candidate. Our primary office is in Toronto, Ontario.

POSITION SUMMARY

Join the dynamic team of a leading North American private debt provider with a primary focus on asset based lending. The Underwriter will be responsible for ensuring that new prospective opportunities are analyzed and evaluated within the company's established risk criteria and credit policies. Key to this position is the ability to provide excellent client service while employing established best practices with respect to risk mitigation and collateral analytics.

This position is for individuals who excel in an entrepreneurial environment, who possess strong analytical skills, with a keen desire to discover, understand and interpret key components in large data streams.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Responsible for all facets of the underwriting process. You will assist with structuring deals, manage 3rd party professionals supporting our due diligence, review all information & reports and create credit memos to summarize the transaction.
  • Analyze collateral, financial and other variables as you prepare underwriting approvals.
  • Review & negotiate legal documents with support of external counsel and internal resources.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to explore and negotiate deals with prospects.
  • Proactively assess, analyze and report on new opportunities.
  • Liaise and provide meaningful and helpful feedback to both external clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Structure new deal opportunities to fit within established guidelines and risk tolerances.
  • Constant application of established best practices for client management, risk mitigation and collateral control.
  • Ability to efficiently review and parse large data streams to capture meaningful information and report same to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent understanding of financial statements and general accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of commercial finance documentation (typical language in loan agreements, etc.) would be ideal.
  • Exceptional customer service & interpersonal skills. Confident engaging clients via email, phone and in-person using a friendly, positive and professional tone.
  • Ability to build exceptional client experiences, with passion and curiosity to help clients meet their needs and solve their concerns – while balancing the company's risk exposure.
  • Sound computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in a busy and dynamic environment.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • College or University Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3-5 years of commercial finance underwriting experience and/or another commercial lending role, ideally in a series of progressive positions.
  • Experience within the alternative finance industry, including Asset Based Lending and Factoring, considered an asset.
  • Field audit or field examiner experience is considered an asset.
