Salary: $55,000 - $60,000

In this Junior Accountant role, you will enhance our bookkeeping and accounting processes to meet internal and external financial reporting needs. You will be able to delve into the operational side of the business to ensure that the trial balance is complete and accurate to support the CFO in preparing monthly financial statements.

You probably want to know what's involved. You will do:

Bookkeeping and accounting

  • Weekly tasks
  • ensure all cash transactions are recorded to the general ledger and cleared against outstanding AP or AR as required.
  • Monitor outstanding A/R and AP- assist with collection efforts as required and ensure invoices are valid, accurate and being received in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate transaction recording to the correct GL accounts.
  • Assist the CFO with weekly cashflow planning and weekly payment processing.
  • Monthly tasks
  • Responsible for month-end close procedures including but not limited to the following.
  • accrual entries
  • account balance reconciliations.
  • bank reconciliations.
  • month end Inventory adjustment as required.
  • HST filings

Cost accounting and inventory management

  • Align accounting processes with operational processes regarding inventory management and cost of goods sold;
  • Monitor and optimize where possible the integration between the MRP platform used by operations to manage inventory and cost of goods sold (CIN7 Core/DEAR) with XERO to ensure accuracy and timeliness of operational-related inputs into XERO;
  • Ensure inventory items are being recorded accurately and completely when received and adjusted accurately as required following monthly inventory counts;
  • Ensure costing information within the bill of materials is set up accurately in CIN7 Core/DEAR and reviewed/updated as required;
  • Assist the CFO and the operations team in producing manufacturing cost variance reports that can be reviewed weekly,
  • Assist the CFO and the operations team in reviewing unit cost economics as required.

Financial and operational reporting

  • Assist the CFO as required in the preparation of accurate monthly financial statements to ensure they are produced within set timelines;
  • Assist the CFO as required in preparing weekly operational and financial reports for internal purposes and KPI tracking.

We want to hear from you if you have the following MUST-HAVE qualifications:

  • College diploma or a university degree in accounting (e.g., Commerce, Accounting diploma)
  • At least 2 years of operational accounting experience in a manufacturing setting
  • 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience
  • Ability to put together a trial balance and perform account analysis as required
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite, MS Office and XERO
  • Strong aptitude for technology, especially accounting-related software and applications
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a "can-do" attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow established processes
  • Initiative, open-mindedness, and a proactive problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent attention to detail with a "done right first" attitude
  • Analytical skills
  • Startup mentality – willingness to get involved in various aspects of the business
  • The ability to commute to other locations as required (Guelph, Kitchener, Toronto)

Nice-to-haves are:

  • Accounting experience in food manufacturing
  • Restaurant accounting experience
  • Familiarity with DEAR, CIN7 CORE, Shopify, Dext, Slack
  • Interest in growing into a higher role
  • Ability to handle increasing responsibilities.
