Navigator Program Co-Lead [Remote, Canada]

About the project: First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Class Action

On October 24, 2023, the Federal Court approved the Settlement Agreement for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Class Action. The Settlement Agreement includes $23.34 billion in compensation for impacted First Nations individuals and some of their family members.

The Settlement applies to First Nations children who were removed from their homes by, or involving, child welfare agencies operating in First Nations communities and the Yukon and placed in out-of-home care between April 1, 1991, and March 31, 2022, and to First Nations children who experienced a delay, denial or gap in essential services between April 1, 1991, and November 2, 2017.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and oversee various aspects of the Claims Support Program.
  • Be client facing and engage with multiple parties included in the First Nations Child and Family Services Jordans Principle Settlement.
  • Lead and direct the Claims Support project team.
  • Manage timelines and budgets to ensure the efficiency of the program.
  • Foster collaboration between all project team members.
  • Work closely with the Claims Support Program Lead, Claims Support Comms Lead, Training and Wellness Lead and the Claims Support Project Lead to ensure the success of the Claims Support Program.
  • Provide oversight of the overall Claims Support Helpers deliverables and work plans to ensure the requirements of Schedule I are met.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure deliverables and work plans are developed for the overall program.
  • Work closely with the FNCFS Jordans Principle Claims Support leadership team to provide leadership and strategic thinking to the overall Claims Support Program.

We're looking for someone with:

  • 10+ years of experience in project management.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, history, and the impacts of (intergenerational) trauma.
  • In-depth understanding of colonial policies, discriminatory laws and the impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples and communities.
  • Have an intermediate understanding of technology and various online platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver clear communication on information pertaining to the parties, classes and overall settlement.
  • Understanding the governance structure of Indigenous communities.
  • Vicarious trauma training.
  • Preferred or in-depth experience and understanding of Indigenous history, peoples and culture.
  • Ability to travel across Canada.
  • Pursuant to Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, preference will be given to First Nations candidates.
