Spiritual Care Coordinator Part Time 30 hour biweekly position
The Part Time (30 hours biweekly) Spiritual Care Coordinator manages, developes, directs and maintains a comprehensive program of services relative to spiritual and religious care for residents and their families. Respects and carries out the values associated with a person-centred approach which include rights, dignity, identity, individuality, respect, privacy, choice and independence.
Resident Planning
Respond to all referrals-for spiritual interventions.
Interdisciplinary progress notes, recording of resident attendance/engagement.
Participate in the program planning process and development of the regular calendar.
Participate in developing spiritual care plans regarding group and individual involvement Visitation and Counselling.
Establish and maintain a list of residents by faith group.
Document visitation program including hospital visitation.
Develop and coordinate a list of community faith leaders.
Provides supportive opportunities of conversation and social engagement to help people live their life and experience well-being.
Provide support and spiritual guidance to residents and families as needed.
Act as a counselor and/or resource person to team members.
Spiritual Care Volunteers
Co-ordinate spiritual care volunteers for end of life and other spiritual programs and individual visiting.
Develop and train spiritual roles and responsibilities for volunteers.
Worshipping
Coordinate, facilitate and offer worship/prayer services in the home.
Fellowship: Bible study and hymn sing
Coordinate use of worship centres/resources. Publicize spiritual and religious care programs.
Assist in preparation of various sacraments
Coordinate and conduct special spiritual services as appropriate ie. Thanksgiving, Communion, Easter
Qualifications
Knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting which may be acquired through a combination of university, theological school, certification program, and /or professional experience.
Committed to providing care and work with a person-centred approach.
Experience in providing physical, social and emotional needs that are in tune with people's changing needs.
Be comfortable working with seniors within a multi-disciplinary care setting. (previous experience an asset)
Have excellent leadership, interpersonal and communicaiton skills including counselling skills.
Good knowledge of various religious beliefs and practices.
Sufficient knowledge and experience in leading palliative care and end of life care programs.
Ability to interact with seniors in a way that it can be understood and communicate in a way that meets every individual's needs and preferences including those that are cognitively challenged.
Demonstrated success in communicating effectively with families, staff and volunteers.
Able to provide counselling through issues and crises.
Facilitate mediation of sensitive issues with multiple players.
Ability to work within the legislative frameworks, balancing confidentiality and the need to maintain the safety and security of staff and others.
Adept at providing materials for bible studies and fellowships.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
