Senior Network Engineer

Design it, run it, lead it. The network behind automotive logistics across North America is yours to own.

Compensation: $100,000 - $110,000 Location: Windsor, with travel to Canadian & US sites
Reports to: Head of Solutions Development & Operations

Why this role matters

Hearn moves parts for some of the largest automotive manufacturers in North America, and our customers measure us in hours, not days. The network is the foundation that every site, every system and every shipment depends on. This role owns that foundation end to end, with the authority to shape it and the backing to make it better. Decisions here are made in days, not quarters. There is little red tape between you and the change, and good ideas get implemented rather than filed away.

About Hearn

Hearn Industrial Services is a third party logistics and warehousing provider serving automotive OEM customers across roughly fifteen sites in the United States and Canada. IT underpins everything we do, from the warehouse floor to the core business systems, and the function is being rebuilt and professionalized right now with modern tooling and real investment. For the right person, that is a rare opportunity: the standards are yours to set, the architecture is yours to shape, and the results will be visible across the whole business.

The role in brief

You lead the design, operation and security of our LAN, WAN, wireless and cloud connectivity, and you lead the people who run it every day. You are the final escalation point for network incidents, the owner of change and maintenance windows, and the trusted voice IT leadership relies on for a clear read on capacity, risk and what comes next.

What you'll do

  • Architect the network. Own LAN, WAN, WLAN and hybrid cloud design across all sites. Set the standards for topology, IP schemes and configuration baselines, and plan capacity and refresh cycles with a multi year view.
  • Run a resilient operation. Administer routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers and DNS, DHCP and IPAM. Manage patching, firmware and planned maintenance, and keep availability, redundancy and disaster recovery readiness where a 24/7 shipping operation needs them.
  • Keep the warehouse floor connected. Give RF scanners, label printers, floor computers and dock technology the coverage and reliability that time sensitive automotive shipping demands, including wireless surveys in large industrial spaces.
  • Own incidents and problems. Be the escalation point for complex network issues, lead major incident response and post incident reviews, eliminate recurring problems at the root, and take part in the on call rotation.
  • Secure what you build. Enforce firewall policy, segmentation and access controls, and partner with Cybersecurity on vulnerability remediation, audits and incident response.
  • Grow the team. Coach and develop network staff, run performance reviews, drive hiring and certification planning, and own the SOPs, runbooks and documentation that make the team dependable.
  • Deliver the projects that matter. Lead site rollouts, carrier and circuit changes, cloud connectivity and infrastructure refresh work. Manage vendors, contracts and escalations, shape the budget, and brief IT leadership with confidence.

The problems you'll solve, and the calls that are yours

A typical week means weighing a live site issue against a planned project, pinpointing whether a fault is carrier, hardware, configuration or security, and recognizing when a pattern of incidents points to a design gap rather than a one off. You will have the room to act on what you find.

  • Yours to decide: network standards and configuration baselines, change scheduling and maintenance windows, firewall and segmentation policy within the security framework, vendor escalations, and how work is prioritized across the team.
  • Decided with your manager: capital purchases and carrier contracts, headcount and hiring, and architecture changes that touch other IT domains or customer facing systems.
  • Escalate immediately: major outages affecting shipping, suspected security incidents, and anything that puts a customer commitment at risk.

Your team and how we work

Day to day you'll work with the Head of Solutions Development & Operations and lead the Network and Systems Administration staff. You'll partner closely with the Service Desk (your eyes and hands on site), the Software Development team on application connectivity, and Cybersecurity on policy and incident response. Beyond IT you'll work regularly with site operations managers, Facilities and Procurement.

Collaboration here is practical and direct. We run a shared ITSM platform, document as we go, and expect a good escalation to arrive with notes, steps taken and evidence so nobody starts over. You will have a direct line to the Director of IS and IT, a seat at the table when budget and priorities are set, and leadership that backs sound technical decisions.

Where this can lead

This is a senior technical seat with a clear leadership track. Over your first one to two years you will standardize the network across every site, build the monitoring and automation that lets a lean team run it well, and develop the people around you. The function is growing, and a lead who delivers here is well positioned to step into an infrastructure management or architecture role as the organization expands.

What the role asks of you

  • Education and certifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience. CCNP or equivalent (JNCIP, Aruba ACMP, Fortinet NSE 4 or higher).
  • Experience: 15+ or more years in network administration or engineering, including 5 or more years in a lead, senior or supervisory capacity; hands on experience with enterprise routers, switches, firewalls and wireless platforms; experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools, formal change management and on call support.
  • Technical knowledge: strong command of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and dynamic routing protocols; working knowledge of network security principles and firewall administration; familiarity with ITIL practices.
  • Personal attributes: sharp analytical and problem solving ability; clear communication and documentation for technical and non technical audiences; a natural mentor who lifts the people around them; steady judgment under pressure during major incidents.
  • Nice to have: SD WAN, zero trust or cloud networking (Azure, AWS); network automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform, REST APIs); Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, F5 or Arista platforms; multi site rollouts or warehouse and distribution environments; ITIL 4, PMP, CISSP or Security+.

Work conditions

The work spans office and warehouse sites, with regular travel to facilities in the United States and Canada, so a valid passport and the ability to cross the border are required. On call rotation for critical network incidents and occasional off hours maintenance windows are part of the role. Warehouse visits involve walking the floor and working around active material handling equipment.

Reviews and benefits

During your probation period you will have a formal performance and development review, with ongoing check ins. You will know what good looks like from day one: network availability, incident response and resolution quality, change success rate, documentation currency and the growth of your team. Hearn offers a comprehensive benefits package once probation is completed.
