THE COMPANY & CULTURE
Our client was founded in 1936 and is a family-owned, privately held metal recycler — the largest privately held company in its industry. Headquartered in Canada, they employ more than 4,000 people across more than 125 locations worldwide, with approximately 500 people at the Hamilton, Ontario operation where this role is based. Revenue is growing 25% – 50% per year.
The business buys scrap metal from industrial and commercial sources, processes it, and sells it to mills and foundries. It is vertically integrated across four divisions — ferrous, non-ferrous, retail, and transportation — and runs an in-house trucking fleet that is larger than those of its competitors. This allows the company to control material from pickup through processing to final shipment. Customers include manufacturers, metal fabricators, industrial plants, and contractors across Southern Ontario.
The stated culture pillars are Passion & Excellence, Teamwork & Collaboration, Agility & Innovation, and Community Engagement. Leadership is data-driven and hands-on, and senior people are available for day-to-day questions. Commodity markets move quickly, so priorities can shift — candidates should be comfortable in a fast-moving environment.
