About Moment Energy

Independent energy is here. Help us deploy it.

Energy should be free. Free from aging grids, fragile supply chains, and unnecessary extraction. At Moment Energy, we're building a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted for everyone.

The world doesn't need another promise about energy; it needs proof that a freer future is possible. Moment Energy is the pragmatic liberator of power, the only company certified to turn the largest untapped energy supply into independent energy.

Now is the moment. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with decades of life left, we put them to work by repurposing large-format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact.

We were told second-life batteries would never be safe enough or scalable enough. We didn't argue, we engineered the solution. Today, Moment Energy delivers 5x the energy density and holds the certifications required to deploy energy independence at scale.

Now is the moment. Join us.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Reliability Engineer to help ensure the long-term reliability, durability, and performance of Moment Energy's battery energy storage systems (BESS). In this role, you will develop reliability models, translate field and simulated operating conditions into mission profiles, and help predict product life and identify potential failure mechanisms. You will also support failure analysis investigations and prepare technical reliability reports that demonstrate product performance to our customers.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of our reliability engineering practices as we scale our second-life battery technology. You will work closely with engineering, testing, and product development teams to turn operating data into actionable engineering insights and help improve confidence in our products.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and apply reliability methodologies to assess product durability, expected service life, and performance across Moment Energy's battery energy storage systems.
  • Derive mission profiles using available field data, operating conditions, environmental exposure, and system usage patterns. Develop simulation-based approaches when sufficient field data is unavailable.
  • Contribute to damage models based on mission profiles, expected failure mechanisms, component characteristics, and anticipated operating conditions to evaluate degradation and estimate useful life.
  • Translate real-world mission profiles into appropriate accelerated test conditions that expose potential failure mechanisms and predict degradation without introducing unrealistic failure modes through excessive stress.
  • Support Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and other reliability assessments to identify risks, prioritize failure modes, and recommend design improvements throughout product development.
  • Help guide technical discussions and investigations into product and component failures, particularly when the root cause is not immediately apparent. Recommend systematic, non-destructive investigative methods before progressing to more intrusive testing or destructive analysis.
  • Analyze field performance, test results, and observed failure trends to help identify root causes, contributing factors, and opportunities to improve product reliability.
  • Prepare Customer Reliability Reports: Prepare technical documentation and reliability reports that communicate product performance, expected service life, testing results, assumptions, and supporting evidence to customers.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, battery, systems, and test engineering teams to incorporate reliability considerations into design decisions, validation plans, and product improvements.
  • Help develop and improve reliability methods, analysis tools, documentation, and processes that can scale with Moment Energy's expanding product portfolio and manufacturing operations.
  • Use field feedback, test results, and failure investigations to recommend design changes and help prevent recurring issues across our products.

The Candidate

We're looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Candidates with a Mechanical Engineering background may be considered if they have demonstrated strength in electrical reliability.
  • 3+ years of experience in reliability engineering, product reliability, design validation, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Experience developing mission profiles from field data, operating conditions, and/or simulation-based approaches.
  • Familiarity with reliability models, damage models, degradation assessments, or useful-life predictions for electrical or electromechanical products.
  • Understanding of electrical failure mechanisms, component degradation, and the relationship between operating conditions, environmental exposure, and product life.
  • Experience developing or supporting accelerated life and reliability testing approaches that reflect realistic operating conditions.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, reliability risk assessments, or other structured engineering methodologies.
  • Ability to investigate failures systematically and identify appropriate non-destructive methods to help determine potential causes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret engineering data and develop evidence-based conclusions.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear engineering reports.
  • A collaborative, self-directed approach and a willingness to learn, share knowledge, and work across multiple engineering disciplines.

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Experience with lithium-ion batteries, battery management systems (BMS), battery packs, or battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience with products deployed in demanding environmental conditions or climates comparable to those expected for Moment Energy's systems.
  • Familiarity with thermal, electrical, mechanical, and environmental stressors affecting long-term battery system performance.
  • Experience with field reliability data, degradation trends, statistical reliability analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Familiarity with reliability testing and safety standards relevant to batteries and energy storage systems, such as UL 1973 and UL 9540.
  • Experience working with industrial products throughout design, validation, certification, manufacturing, and field deployment.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis techniques such as electrical characterization, thermography, microscopy, or other non-destructive inspection methods.
  • Experience developing customer-facing technical documentation for industrial products.

Why join us?

  • Today, we're delivering 5x the energy density and have all the certifications needed to ship energy independence to the world.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company focused on creating sustainable energy solutions and making a positive impact on the world.
