Supervisory Barista / Shift Lead

About Us

Figaro Coffee House is an Ottawa café and coffee roaster. We roast our own coffee, prepare our food in-house, and care about every cup we serve. We're looking for an experienced barista who's ready to lead a shift.

About the Role

As a Supervisory Barista, you'll make great coffee, take care of our customers, and keep each shift running smoothly. You'll lead from behind the bar and help out in the kitchen. Both part-time and full-time hours are available.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso drinks, brewed coffee and other beverages to Figaro recipes and standards
• Greet and serve customers, take orders and process payments accurately on the POS
• Help with kitchen prep, including food preparation, restocking the display case and keeping ingredients ready for service
• Supervise the shift: assign tasks, keep the line moving and step in wherever needed
• Train and coach new baristas on drinks, service and café procedures
• Open or close the café, including cash handling and opening/closing checklists
• Keep the bar, kitchen, seating area and patio clean, stocked and organized
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times
• Handle customer concerns calmly and professionally
• Keep the manager informed about inventory, staffing and any issues

Requirements

• Available at least 15 hours per week
• Barista experience required (1+ year preferred)
• Supervisory or shift-lead experience is an asset
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Stays organized and calm in a fast-paced environment
• Food Handler Certification is an asset (or willing to get it)
• Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs

Hours

• Part-time and full-time positions available
• Minimum of 15 hours per week
• Shifts may include mornings, weekends and holidays
