Health and Safety Co-Op Placement

Position Details:

· Fixed-Term, Co-Op Placement

· Schedule: Monday to Friday

· Hours of Work: 8:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Location: Head Office, Cornwall Road, Oakville, ON

Summary:

We seek a driven, energetic and creative Health and Safety Co-Op Student who will be assisting MRI's Health and Safety Specialist in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace through supporting all H&S projects and initiatives, in addition to monitoring and advising employees with regards to safety and prevention programs in alignment with legislation, best practices, and departmental and organizational goals and objectives. The candidate will be participating in a number of documentation and record keeping activities as well.

The primary responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

· Assist the Health & Safety Specialist on incident investigation, process analysis and process improvement activities.

· Assist in evaluating hazardous conditions and practices and developing hazard control practices and programs.

· Support the delivery of the H&S Orientation for new hires.

· Participate in meetings and training as they relate to Health and Safety matters.

· Assist with WSIB Modified Work & coordinate aspects of the Return-to-Work program utilizing ergonomic tools available to ensure productive and suitable job bundles for employees; maintain a log for employees participating in the Return-to-Work program

· Assist in conducting ergonomic assessments to ensure safe work practices.

· Back up to Health and Safety Specialist in assisting employees with concerns and inquiries on the H&S related matters.

· Assisting and supporting Health and Safety documentation, such as policies, procedures, work instructions, archiving, ISO 45001 certification, and complete WSIB Excellence Program Topics

· Participate in Monthly Facility inspections, creating Safety Bulletins & Notices.

· Assist in the creation of monthly/weekly safety talks for the distribution to employees.

· Collaborate with team to ensure successful completion of all Health and Safety audits.

· Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies.

· Assist in compiling company's health & safety statistics & KPI data.

· Assist in the development of company specific safe work practices and safe work procedures.

· Utilize company H&S Software program to assist in managing overall regulatory compliance.

· Involvement with continuous improvement and projects in the health and safety department.

· Maintain accurate records to ensure compliance with health and safety laws and regulations.

· Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Academic Training & Experience:

· Be currently enrolled as a full time post-secondary student in a recognized institution.

· Have completed at least one year in program of related discipline.

· Pursuing a bachelor's degree in health and safety.

· Currently enrolled in a co-op program in a related field: Health and Safety,

· Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

· Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

· Excellent English Communication skills (oral and written)

· Knowledge of best practices.

· Strong communication and presentation skills.

· Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Specific Competencies:

· Knowledge of OHS Act and Regulations.

· Ability to read and interpret ISO Standards and apply to specific work conditions.

· Proficiency in Microsoft office (word, excel, forms, outlook, power point)

· Good written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.

· Ability to work in a team environment, and independently without supervision.

· Proactive mindset with the ability to multitask in a high paced environment while meeting deadlines.

· High integrity for dealing with confidential information.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Strong problem-solving, observation skills and decision-making abilities.

· Previous experience conducting presentations.
