The Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation operates Zajac Ranch, an accessible, medically supported camp dedicated to providing outdoor and camp experiences for children, youth, and young adults living with complex medical conditions, disabilities, and chronic illnesses. At Zajac Ranch, campers are empowered to build confidence, independence, friendships, and self-esteem in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment while ensuring their physical, emotional, and medical well-being.
Opportunity:
We are currently seeking Camp Nurses for our 2027 Summer Camp Season. This is a seasonal contract position for the duration of the summer camp term, offering an honorarium of $1,500 per week, plus meals and accommodation during camp sessions.
Our medical team plays a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and memorable experience for every camper. We strive to ensure all medical volunteers and staff feel fully supported while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary camp environment. Camp Nurses are welcome to stay on-site during scheduled camp sessions and, where available, between sessions. Accommodation availability during weekends may vary.

Report To: Nursing Director
Job Type: Fixed-Term Contract
Contract Length: Summer Camp Term
Honorarium: $1,500 per week, plus meals and accommodation during camp sessions
Work Location: In Person, overage includes Monday (starting at 9:00 AM) through Friday (ending at 3:00 PM), including evenings and overnight on-call responsibilities during camp sessions.
Responsibilities
- Support the health, safety, and well-being of campers, staff, and volunteers throughout camp operations.
- Prepare and distribute medical equipment and supplies to cabins and program areas at the start of each camp session.
- Participate in camper check-in and medication intake processes with campers and families, including reviewing medications, dosages, administration routes, and schedules.
- Review camper medical files to ensure all medical needs, medications, and care plans are properly prepared and supported.
- Ensure medications are safely organized, secured, documented, and stored in accordance with applicable standards.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the camper's Most Responsible Practitioner (MRP) and/or medical documentation.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation, incident reports, medication records, and health logs.
- Respond promptly to first aid and medical situations involving campers, staff, or volunteers, including minor illnesses, injuries, and emergencies.
- Collaborate with the Nursing Director and broader camp team to maintain a safe and supportive camp environment.
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, including developing resources, identifying opportunities for improvement, and providing feedback on processes.
- Complete documentation using web-based platforms, including CampBrain and Monday.com, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Work with the Nursing Director to orient, mentor, and train volunteer nurses on a weekly basis.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives and delegate quality improvement activities as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the Nursing Director, nursing team, camp leadership, families, and other authorized members of the care team.
- Provide respectful, camper-centered care that protects safety, privacy, dignity, comfort, independence, confidentiality, and individual needs.
- Prepare and maintain medical supplies and equipment, and report low, expired, damaged, or missing items.
Requirements
- Valid CPR-C certification (higher-level certification accepted).
- Current practicing registration in good standing with the applicable regulatory college or association in British Columbia.
- Qualified healthcare professional in the field of medicine or nursing (MD, RN, LPN, RPN, or NP).
- Students and paramedics are encouraged to apply and may be considered based on experience and availability to work alongside an RN or MD.

What We Offer
- Accommodation is provided during camp sessions (Monday–Friday) in our newly built medical residence located near the Medical Centre. Should weekend accommodation be required, you are welcome to remain on-site; however, you may be asked to relocate to alternate accommodations on the property, as the medical residence may need to be vacated to accommodate rental groups, cleaning, or maintenance activities. Rest assured, private accommodation options will be available and can be arranged with the team in advance.
- Shared weekday accommodations include a four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence designated for medical staff.
- Meals are provided by the camp chef during camp sessions.
