About the role
Elevate Service Group is a national facilities management and commercial services platform, serving retail, restaurant and property clients across Canada through a growing family of operating companies. We are hiring an HR Generalist to run day-to-day people operations for our office staff and field technicians in multiple provinces. You will be the first point of contact for managers and employees, and you will own the full employee lifecycle from offer to exit.
This is a hands-on role for someone who has already supported a national workforce. You know that employment standards, leaves, statutory holidays and termination rules differ by province, and you have applied those differences in practice.
What you'll do:
Multi-province compliance
• Keep policies, contracts and practices compliant with employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, and privacy legislation in every province where we employ people.
• Track legislative changes by province and update policies, templates and manager guidance accordingly.
• Maintain accurate employee records and prepare for audits and government reporting.
Employee relations
• Advise managers on performance, attendance, conduct and accommodation issues.
• Lead workplace investigations and document findings and outcomes.
• Manage disciplinary action and terminations, including provincial notice and severance requirements, with legal counsel where needed.
Employee lifecycle
• Run full-cycle recruitment for corporate and field roles, including technicians and skilled trades: postings, screening, interviews, offers and employment agreements.
• Deliver onboarding and offboarding consistently across locations.
• Administer leaves of absence, including statutory, disability and workers' compensation claims and return-to-work plans.
Total rewards and HR operations
• Administer benefits and support annual renewals with the broker or carrier.
• Partner with payroll on changes, vacation accruals, statutory holiday pay and records of employment.
• Support compensation reviews, job descriptions and pay equity obligations.
• Maintain the HRIS and report on headcount, turnover, absenteeism and time-to-fill.
Policy, training and culture
• Write and maintain the employee handbook, with province-specific addenda.
• Coordinate mandatory training such as health and safety, harassment prevention and accessibility.
• Run performance review cycles and support engagement initiatives across divisions.
Acquisition integration
• Support HR due diligence and onboarding of employees from newly acquired companies.
• Harmonize policies, employment agreements, benefits and HR systems across operating companies and provinces.
• Help managers and employees through the transition, keeping communication clear and consistent.
What you bring
• 3–5 years of progressive HR generalist experience.
• Direct responsibility for an employee population in two or more Canadian provinces, across divisions, business units or client sites.
• Working knowledge of provincial employment standards, human rights, health and safety, workers' compensation and privacy legislation, and how they differ between jurisdictions.
• A track record of handling employee relations matters independently, including investigations and terminations.
• Experience with full-cycle recruitment, benefits administration and payroll coordination.
• Proficiency with an HRIS and strong Excel or reporting skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication, with the judgment to handle confidential matters discreetly.
• The ability to work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities across locations and time zones.
• A degree or diploma in human resources, business or a related field.
Assets (Nice to haves)
• CHRP or CHRL designation (or CPHR outside Ontario), or progress toward one.
• Exposure to Quebec employment law and French-language requirements; bilingualism in English and French.
• Experience in facility services, skilled trades or another business with a field-based technician workforce.
• Experience with federally regulated employers or unionized environments.
• Experience in an acquisitive or publicly traded company, including integrating acquired teams.
