Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and financial statement notes.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare and process journal entries.
  • Analyze financial statement variances and identify the underlying causes.
  • Perform balance sheet, cash flow, net debt, and accumulated surplus analysis.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close activities.
  • Reconcile revenue accounts and restricted funding receipts.
  • Assist with operating and restricted-fund accounting.
  • Prepare variance analyses and complex financial reports.
  • Support grant and restricted-fund reporting.
  • Monitor deferred revenue and grant balances, including expiring funding.
  • Assist with fixed-asset and capital-revenue accounting.
  • Support payroll, banking, and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
  • Support subledger interfaces, billings, and remittances.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, worksheets, reconciliations, and documentation for auditors.
  • Support Chart of Accounts maintenance.
  • Assist with time-sensitive financial reporting and regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Work collaboratively with finance teams and stakeholders to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Manage multiple priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive financial/accounting experience.
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA designation.
  • Strong background in financial accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and financial data.
  • Strong General Ledger (GL) and account reconciliation experience.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close.
  • Experience preparing and processing journal entries.
  • Strong variance analysis and financial analysis skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with financial systems and database applications in a large or complex organization.
  • Ability to prepare complex financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight, time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Canadian public-sector accounting.
  • Healthcare finance or accounting.
  • Provincial government or public-sector organizations.
  • Grant accounting and reporting.
