- Read and interpret engineering blueprints and schematics; determine machining sequences, dimensions, tolerances and setup requirements.
- Develop CNC programs independently from scratch using Fanuc controls and Mastercam; apply G-code, M-code and sound machining principles rather than relying on pre-written programs.
- Plan and execute complex boring mill setups, including precise positioning, supporting and clamping of suspended or rotated workpieces.
- Account for changing gravitational loads as fixtures and workpieces rotate; verify secure clamping to protect the component, tooling and machine.
- Use an overhead crane to load and unload large components safely (approximately 90% of jobs involve crane handling).
- Operate lasers and probes for accurate tool and datum pickup; adjust feeds, speeds and machine settings to maintain quality.
- Inspect machined components using dial indicators, height gauges, micrometers and gauge blocks; confirm alignment and conformance to tight tolerances.
- Deburr and finish components by filing, tapping, grinding or scraping as required.
- Perform routine machine cleaning and maintenance and collaborate with machinists and toolmakers to deliver quality work.
- At least 3 years of machining experience, with strong hands-on CNC boring mill setup and operation capability.
- Proven ability to program CNC machining work independently from the drawing through to the finished part.
- Experience with Fanuc controllers; knowledge of Mastercam, G-code, M-code and GD&T principles.
- Excellent blueprint interpretation, shop mathematics, measurement and precision machining skills.
- Confidence with complex workholding, clamping, overhead crane handling and safe movement of heavy components.
- High attention to detail and a strong safety focus, particularly when machining parts to demanding tolerances.
- Ability to work effectively with a team and adapt hours when production timelines require.
- Completed machinist apprenticeship/certification is an asset; familiarity with Flexible Clamping Systems (FCS) is an asset.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and available for the steady night shift.
