Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Site Supervisor, the Excavator Operator will be responsible for the safe operation of excavators and related equipment on industrial, civil, pipeline, and oilfield construction projects; and in accordance with the scope of the project and the work being performed.

The operator will also maintain compliance with site procedures and safety standards.

The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of Lynco, as well as adherence to all established Policies and Procedures.

This temporary, full-time, hourly position is located within the Lloydminster region, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and attachments safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational inspections of assigned equipment.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
  • Participate in the safe fueling and servicing of equipment.
  • Advise the Site Supervisor of any required or anticipated equipment maintenance or repairs that may impact safe or efficient operations.
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and hazard assessments before commencing work and whenever work conditions change.
  • Receive and carry out work assignments from the Site Supervisor, adjusting work activities as project conditions, priorities, and procedures change.
  • Follow drawings, grades, permits, safe-work procedures, and ground-disturbance requirements.
  • Work safely around utilities, workers, structures, vehicles, and other equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client, and legislated health, safety, and environmental policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and actively contribute suggestions for safety and operational improvements.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, or property damage immediately.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors and team members to support safe and efficient project execution; and,
  • Other relatable duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Grade twelve (12) Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) equivalency is required.
  • College or industry courses in heavy equipment operating is an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of excavator operating experience in industrial, civil, pipeline, or oilfield construction is required.
  • Previous experience excavating around hotlines is required.
  • A combination of relevant post-secondary education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and a clean driver's abstract are required.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test is required.
  • Valid safety tickets (e.g., CSTS, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive) depending on site requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to effectively report hazards and safety concerns.
  • Ability to read plans and grades, recognize equipment issues, and work effectively with a field crew.
  • Ability to complete project orientations, competency assessments, and testing where required.
  • Ability to adhere to strict site-specific safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to visit and work on all work sites without restrictions is required.
  • Ability to work shift work, including overtime when required.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be fit for duty, wear required PPE, and safely enter, exit, and inspect equipment.
