THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join Onyx-Fire BC as a full-time Senior Estimator. As a key member of our Estimating Team, you will use your knowledge of the Fire & Life Safety industry to prepare accurate and comprehensive quotations for deficiencies, repairs, and project work resulting from Annual Inspections, Service Calls, Repair visits, and regular Maintenance visits.

As a Senior Estimator, you will independently manage complex estimating requirements, collaborate with internal teams, Field Technicians, suppliers, and vendors, and provide guidance and support to junior members of the Estimating Team.

Objectives & Responsibilities of the Estimator:

  • Review inspection reports, work scopes, drawings, and supporting documentation to determine estimating requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive quotations for deficiencies, repairs, service work, and projects.
  • Create professional quotation and proposal cover letters.
  • Independently manage complex or high-value estimates and ensure quotations accurately reflect the required scope of work.
  • Liaise with suppliers and vendors to obtain pricing and product information as required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Field Technicians to verify inspection findings and work scopes to ensure quotations are accurate and all-encompassing.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers and Operations regarding special, complex, or urgent requests.
  • Provide guidance and support to Junior Estimators and assist with reviewing estimates as required.
  • Identify potential gaps, inconsistencies, or missing information within inspection reports and work scopes before quotations are finalized.
  • Communicate critical information to colleagues regarding vendors, products, equipment, pricing, and competitors.
  • Support project coordination, including timelines, vendor coordination, internal communication, and project execution from quotation through completion.
  • Follow department guidelines and metrics to support company strategic goals.
  • Assist and support internal departments as required.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with internal team members to contribute to an efficient workflow.
  • Adhere to and promote the company's core values, processes, policies, and Occupational Health and Safety protocols.
  • Additional duties as they may arise.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

You are an experienced estimator with strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with Field Technicians, Operations, Account Managers, vendors, and other internal teams.

You are resourceful, analytical, and confident making informed estimating decisions while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and customer service. You also enjoy sharing your knowledge and supporting the development of junior team members.

The ideal candidate would have the following attributes, strengths, and experience:

  • Previous estimating experience, preferably within the Fire & Life Safety industry or a related trade.
  • Strong knowledge of quoting, estimating, and proposal preparation.
  • Experience preparing complex or high-value estimates.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fire protection systems, equipment, and services is considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to review and interpret inspection reports, work scopes, technical information, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management and task prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-priority estimates and deadlines.
  • Resourceful and able to independently identify issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to junior members of the Estimating Team.
  • Computer literate and confident navigating various software systems.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.

PLEASE NOTE: Local candidates only. Hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
