Retirement Living

Bring your culinary creativity to a role where every meal makes a difference.

We are seeking an experienced Executive Chef to lead the culinary team at a retirement residence. This is an opportunity to create memorable dining experiences, build meaningful relationships with residents, and lead a team that takes pride in exceptional food and service.

The ideal candidate combines culinary talent with strong leadership and understands that dining is an important part of residents' enjoyment, well-being, and sense of community.

About the Role

The Executive Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, menu planning, food quality, and culinary team performance. Working closely with the residence leadership and dining services teams, you will deliver delicious, nutritious meals that reflect residents' preferences and dietary needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily culinary operations, ensuring consistent food quality, presentation, and timely service.

  • Develop varied, seasonal menus that balance resident preferences, nutritional needs, and creativity.

  • Prepare and oversee meals for regular dining service, special events, and celebrations.

  • Accommodate allergies, therapeutic diets, and texture modifications according to documented requirements.

  • Recruit, train, coach, and support the culinary team.

  • Manage scheduling, purchasing, inventory, food costs, and waste within established budgets.

  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and kitchen health and safety standards.

  • Engage with residents, welcome feedback, and adapt offerings to enhance their dining experience.

  • Coordinate with dining and care teams to support individual resident needs.

  • Maintain accurate operational records and ensure kitchen equipment is used and maintained properly.

Qualifications
  • Culinary diploma, apprenticeship, Red Seal certification, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Previous experience as an Executive Chef, Head Chef, or Sous Chef with demonstrated team leadership.

  • Experience in retirement living, hospitality, healthcare, or another high-volume dining environment.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety, menu development, purchasing, and cost control.

  • Understanding of dietary accommodations, food allergies, and texture-modified meals.

  • Food handler certification, or willingness to obtain the certification required for the location.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and people management skills.

  • A warm, service-focused approach and a commitment to creating an enjoyable dining experience for older adults.

What Makes This Opportunity Meaningful

Your work will become part of residents' daily lives—from a favourite breakfast to a special birthday dinner. You'll have the opportunity to bring creativity to the table while building a kitchen culture rooted in teamwork, consistency, and care.
