Health & Safety Coordinator

Are you a hands-on health and safety professional who enjoys working with people and making workplaces safer?

Our client in the manufacturing sector is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support workplace safety, environmental and ergonomic programs.

Reporting to the HR Manager, you'll work closely with employees, operational teams and the Joint Health and Safety Committee to identify hazards, strengthen safe work practices and support compliance with Ontario's occupational health and safety requirements.

This role offers broad exposure to manufacturing safety, from employee training and workplace inspections to incident investigations and return-to-work coordination.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate health and safety, environmental and ergonomic programs, helping drive practical improvements across the facility.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments; recommend corrective actions and follow through to completion.
  • Coordinate incident and accident investigations, maintaining accurate records and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee, including meeting minutes and follow-up on recommendations.
  • Deliver health and safety orientation and employee presentations, and coordinate training and certification renewals.
  • Maintain safety policies, procedures, training records and employee communications.
  • Support WSIB claims administration and return-to-work programs, including required documentation and physical demands analyses.
  • Coordinate contractor and visitor safety requirements and work with other departments to support safe equipment introduction and operation.
  • Support programs covering ergonomics, heat stress, hazardous chemicals, lockout/tagout, hearing conservation and employee wellness.
  • Maintain first aid and personal protective equipment supplies and assist with broader HR activities, including occasional reception coverage.

What you'll bring

  • A postsecondary qualification in Occupational or Public Health & Safety.
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee certification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Two years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within manufacturing.
  • Thorough knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, codes and industry standards.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and follow through independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Forms, Teams and Outlook.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach, sound judgment and a high level of discretion.
  • Internal auditing experience and familiarity with HSELinx, Sphera or SharePoint would be assets.
