Position Overview

Reliance One is hiring an experienced Construction Coordinator for an established automotive manufacturer in Cambridge, Ontario.

The Construction Coordinator will plan and oversee industrial construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and process-improvement projects. This role will coordinate contractors, create project schedules and scopes of work, review mechanical and structural drawings, and help ensure equipment is safely installed and ready for production.

The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with sheet metal, ductwork, metal fabrication, equipment installation, and construction projects completed during manufacturing shutdowns and other non-production periods.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Coordination

  • Manage project planning, implementation, and follow-up activities to achieve key performance indicators and critical milestones.
  • Develop and maintain detailed construction and equipment-installation schedules.
  • Create project scopes of work and clearly define team, contractor, and stakeholder responsibilities.
  • Coordinate multiple contractors throughout construction and equipment-installation projects.
  • Track project schedules, action items, risks, concerns, decisions, and deliverables.
  • Communicate project progress and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Coordinate internal and external groups to assign responsibilities and resolve project conflicts.
  • Ensure construction and commissioning activities remain aligned with production startup requirements.

Construction and Equipment Installation

  • Oversee construction, equipment installation, and commissioning activities during non-production periods.
  • Ensure equipment and manufacturing processes are ready for scheduled production startup.
  • Support new-model introductions involving equipment modifications, manufacturing processes, and production jigs.
  • Execute and coordinate on-site equipment modifications during weekends, holidays, shutdowns, and other non-production periods.
  • Review mechanical and structural drawings and support related design activities.
  • Coordinate sheet-metal, ductwork, metal-fabrication, and equipment-installation activities.
  • Verify that construction and installation work meets project specifications, manufacturing requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Monitor installation progress and coordinate corrective actions when work does not meet project requirements.

Process Development and Safety

  • Lead process development from initial design through equipment specification, procurement, installation, and production readiness.
  • Support machine specifications, safety risk assessments, process trials, and equipment validation.
  • Review site-safety management plans for construction projects.
  • Ensure contractors and project teams comply with applicable Canadian construction and workplace-safety requirements.
  • Identify project and installation risks and coordinate appropriate countermeasures.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and organizational continuous-improvement activities.
  • Support safe, efficient, and sustainable manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, production trials, and final project handover.

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering certification, skilled-trades certification, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least three years of experience coordinating equipment installations involving multiple contractors.
  • At least three years of experience reviewing mechanical and structural drawings.
  • At least three years of experience leading structured problem-solving activities.
  • At least 10 years of experience installing sheet
