About Us

At Longboard Architectural Products, we change the face of architecture by designing and manufacturing premium aluminum solutions. Our innovative products set industry standards for durability, aesthetics, and sustainability. We take pride in transforming commercial and residential spaces into stunning, sustainable environments. Recognized as one of the Great Places to Work and Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers in 2026, and Best Places to Work in BC 2026, we offer professional growth opportunities, comprehensive benefits, and a workplace culture where people come first.

About the Role

As a Manufacturing Technologist, you will provide mechanical design and technical drafting support for manufacturing process improvements, equipment, tooling, and production solutions.

During the first 6 to 12 months, the role will be heavily focused on CAD design and documentation, with approximately 80% of your time dedicated to CAD work and 20% to hands-on manufacturing support, including taking measurements, validating designs, and supporting implementation on the production floor.

Within the CAD portion of the role, approximately 75% of the work will be completed in SolidWorks and 25% in AutoCAD. Your primary focus will be on developing manufacturing and process-related mechanical solutions, including jigs, fixtures, production aids, equipment modifications, and plant layouts.

The focus is on supporting manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturability.

As you build familiarity with Longboard's manufacturing processes, equipment, and operations, the role is expected to gradually evolve toward a more balanced combination of CAD design support and Continuous Improvement activities.

Reporting to the CI Manager, you will receive technical direction and work closely with Operations and other internal teams to translate identified manufacturing needs and proposed solutions into accurate, practical, and manufacturable designs.

About You

You are a technically strong manufacturing or mechanical technologist with advanced CAD capabilities and experience creating detailed mechanical models, drawings, layouts, and manufacturing documentation.

You are comfortable spending a significant portion of your day working in SolidWorks and AutoCAD and enjoy translating concepts, measurements, sketches, and technical direction into accurate designs that can be implemented on the production floor.

You understand that this role is focused on manufacturing processes rather than product design and are interested in using your CAD expertise to improve how products are manufactured.

You are also comfortable working on the production floor when required to take measurements, understand equipment and processes, validate designs, and support implementation.

What You Will Do
  • Apply engineering and Design for Manufacturability principles to develop mechanical solutions that improve manufacturing processes, safety, repeatability, and operational efficiency.
    • Translate conceptual ideas, sketches, measurements, and technical direction into detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
    • Create and update technical drawings and schematics using primarily SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
    • Design manufacturing aids such as jigs, fixtures, and related process solutions.
    • Support implementation and validation through measurements, testing, and hands-on work on the production floor.
  • Plan, develop, and maintain detailed plant and equipment layout drawings.
    • Review equipment positioning, space utilization, and material flow to support layout improvements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure layouts align with operational requirements.
    • Consider health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements during layout planning.
    • Support capital projects by documenting space, utility, equipment, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Provide CAD and technical support for Continuous Improvement initiatives led by the CI Manager and Operations teams.
  • Support the implementation of improved manufacturing methods through engineering analysis, CAD design, measurements, and hands-on validation.
  • Collaborate with Product Design and Production teams to improve manufacturability and support production testing of new products, configurations, tools, and equipment.
  • Gather technical information and measurements from production equipment, manufacturing areas, and team members and incorporate those requirements into designs and drawings.
  • Communicate technical information and design intent to production employees and internal teams as required.
  • Prepare technical reports and manufacturing data to support Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Assist the CI Manager with coordination and tracking of assigned CI projects and activities.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by your manager.
Qualifications & Experience
    • Diploma or degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including experience creating detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, particularly for 2D drawings and plant or equipment layouts.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment involving mechanical design, CAD documentation, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology, or Continuous Improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience creating mechanical designs for manufacturing applications, including jigs, fixtures, production aids, or similar solutions.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturability principles in a production environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret and create technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience taking physical measurements and translating manufacturing requirements or conceptual sketches into accurate CAD designs.
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing equipment, machinery, fabrication, and assembly methods.
  • Knowledge of ergonomics, industrial safety, and regulatory considerations related to plant and equipment layout.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, process mapping, workflow analysis, and work measurement techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and manufacturability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing, engineering, production, and Continuous Improvement teams.
  • Basic understanding of rapid prototyping and 3D printing.
  • Mechatronics knowledge, including pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, and interlocks, is considered an asset.
Benefits And Compensation
  • Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000 CAD annually, based on experience.
  • Profit Sharing Program: Rewarding your contribution to Longboard's success.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health Spending and Lifestyle Spending Accounts, catastrophic coverage, travel insurance, and more.
  • RRSP Matching: Up to 4% of your annual salary from Day 1
  • People-First Culture: A collaborative environment that supports professional growth, work-life balance, and continuous development.
