Détails de l'emploi :
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a growing organization.
This is a full-cycle accounting role that sits between a senior bookkeeper and controller. The successful candidate will be comfortable acting as the primary accounting resource, managing everything from day-to-day transactions and reconciliations through to financial reporting, government remittances, year-end preparation, and supporting business decisions.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys owning the accounting function, working independently, and bringing structure and accuracy to financial operations. Strong communication skills are important, as you will work closely with leadership, operations, external accountants/auditors, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Take ownership of maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including general ledgers, journals, and subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare, review, and analyze key financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations to ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and properly supported.
- Manage the full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, payment processing, collections, and related recordkeeping.
- Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and other financial planning activities.
- Prepare and file government remittances and related requirements, including HST/GST returns and payroll source deductions.
- Coordinate year-end accounting requirements and assist with audit preparation, working directly with external auditors and advisors as needed.
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, tax requirements, and internal policies.
- Review existing accounting processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement practical procedures that improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide financial reporting, analysis, and insights to help leadership understand business performance and make informed decisions.
- Work collaboratively with leadership, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure financial priorities are aligned with broader business needs.
- Certified QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advisor - required.
- Strong hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online, with the ability to manage the accounting function effectively within the platform.
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- A CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting designation is an asset.
- Previous experience in a Controller, Senior Accountant, Full-Cycle Accountant, or similarly hands-on accounting role.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial controls.
- Familiarity with both Canadian and U.S. accounting requirements, regulations, and tax considerations.
- Solid understanding of financial statements, financial reporting, and financial statement analysis.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to work confidently with financial data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a practical approach to identifying and resolving accounting issues.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to clearly explain financial information to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Comfortable working independently as the primary accounting resource while also collaborating effectively with a broader team.
- Previous experience within the healthcare industry is considered an asset.
The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and owning the full accounting cycle. You don't need to be someone who only reviews the work of others. You should be equally comfortable getting into the details, solving issues, keeping the books clean, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Because this role serves as a key financial resource for the organization, communication, judgment, reliability, and attention to detail are just as important as technical accounting knowledge.
If you're an experienced accounting professional who enjoys having ownership of the numbers, working independently, and being a trusted resource to the business, we'd like to hear from you.
