POSITION SUMMARY

Lauren Services is seeking a highly experienced and technically strong Rotating Equipment Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide technical leadership for major rotating equipment on EPC and EPCM projects in the Oil & Gas and Energy sectors.

The role is responsible for the selection, specification, procurement, vendor coordination, design integration, and implementation of gas turbine-driven compression systems, centrifugal compressors, and large pump systems across Greenfield and Brownfield facilities.

The successful candidate will act as a technical authority throughout the equipment lifecycle, ensuring the machinery package and associated systems operate safely, reliably, and effectively within the overall facility, not solely within the vendor package boundary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Leadership and Equipment Design

• Serve as technical authority during concept selection, FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
• Lead selection, sizing, specification, and technical evaluation of gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, process compressors, and large pump systems.
• Provide specialist input for gas turbine packages of approximately 20,000 HP or greater and large pumps typically ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 HP.
• Assess operating philosophy, performance, reliability, maintainability, availability, and lifecycle requirements.

Turbine and Compressor Systems

• Provide demonstrable expertise with Solar Turbines and/or Baker Hughes gas turbines and natural gas compressor packages.
• Engineer and review centrifugal compressor operating envelopes, performance curves, surge margins, capacity control, anti-surge protection, recycling systems, and recycle valve sizing.
• Evaluate startup, shutdown, settle-out, turndown, transient operation, and interaction with upstream and downstream facilities.

Vendor Packages and Procurement

• Prepare and review data sheets, specifications, material requisitions, purchasing packages, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document requirements.
• Lead technical clarification meetings, design reviews, and resolution of vendor technical queries.
• Review P&IDs, general arrangements, performance curves, mechanical details, control narratives, cause-and-effect documentation, and package interfaces.
• Coordinate process, piping, mechanical, controls, electrical, structural, building, and safety interfaces.

Associated Systems and Facility Integration

• Provide oversight for air intake and filtration, fuel gas, lube oil, seal, cooling, exhaust, ventilation, acoustic, utility, and machinery protection systems.
• Review package controls, vibration monitoring, shutdown logic, fire and gas detection, and fire suppression systems.
• Advise compressor buildings, access, lifting and maintenance requirements, ventilation, hazardous areas, piping arrangements, valve sizing, and relief/de-pressuring interfaces.

Large Pump Systems

• Provide specialist support for large crude oil, pipeline, booster, transfer, and process pumps.
• Review hydraulic performance, operating range, driver sizing, minimum-flow protection, controls, and system integration.
• Support troubleshooting, debottlenecking, reliability improvement, and performance optimization.

Construction, Commissioning, and Operations Support

• Participate in vendor inspections, FATs, SATs, installation reviews, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup.
• Resolve field and operating issues involving performance, vibration, controls, surge, reliability, and auxiliary systems.
• Support Brownfield tie-ins, upgrades, replacements, revamps, and operating facility constraints.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer, P.E (Designation for the United States) and (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, or eligibility for registration in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Minimum 20 years of relevant engineering experience, including 5 to 10 years of dedicated specialist expertise in large turbomachinery, centrifugal compression, and/or major rotating equipment.
• Demonstrated EPC, EPCM, owner, operator, or vendor experience in the Oil & Gas or Energy industry.
• Demonstrated Greenfield and Brownfield experience across design, procurement, vendor coordination, facility integration, implementation, commissioning, startup, and operational support.

SKILLS

• Advanced rotating equipment specification, technical evaluation, and vendor package review skills.
• Strong multidisciplinary coordination, technical problem-solving, risk-based decision-making, technical writing, mentoring, and client-facing communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE

• Expert knowledge of gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, large centrifugal pumps, auxiliary systems, and facility integration.
• Working knowledge of API 610, API 614, API 616, API 617, API 670, API 671, and other project-applicable API machinery standards.
• Working knowledge of applicable CSA, ASME, ANSI, NFPA, IEC, ISO, and jurisdictional requirements for Canadian and United States projects.
• Strong understanding of compressor operation, anti-surge control, recycle valves, machinery protection, vibration monitoring, package controls, and rotating equipment reliability.

ABILITIES

• Lead technical decisions independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary EPC project teams.
• Identify package boundary gaps and ensure vendor equipment is fully integrated into the process and facility design.
• Manage multiple technical priorities and travel to vendor facilities, fabrication shops, project sites, and operating facilities as required.
