Office Location: Barrie, ON (This role does not provide remote or hybrid work).

Purpose of a Paralegal

The purpose of this role is to support Northlake Financial's legal, collections, and recovery operations by managing legal files efficiently, coordinating with internal departments and external legal representatives, maintaining confidentiality, and contributing to the effective resolution of collections and recovery matters within the automotive finance industry.

Responsibilities of a Paralegal

• Prepare, review, and maintain legal documents, correspondence, case files, and supporting records related to automotive financing, collections, and recovery.
• Collaborate with external legal counsel and licensed paralegals to review accounts and determine appropriate next steps, including seize and/or sue actions.
• Assess account viability, outstanding balances, and recovery potential to support decisions regarding recoverable amounts and potential uncollectible losses.
• Assist with legal claims, court filings, demand letters, settlements, and judgment enforcement documentation, as permitted by law.
• Administer consumer proposal and bankruptcy files in accordance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and manage documentation related to insurance write-offs and warranty cancellations, coordinate warranty refund requests, and follow up on outstanding insurance balances.
• Monitor legal deadlines, court dates, file status, and outstanding documentation to ensure timely follow-up and resolution.
• Provide administrative and operational support to the Recovery & Remarketing Supervisor or Manager and collaborate with internal departments and external service providers.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records while supporting compliance with applicable legislation, internal policies, and established legal and recovery procedures.

Qualifications of a Paralegal

• Diploma or certificate in Paralegal Studies from a recognized institution.
• Knowledge of civil litigation, debt collection, legal documentation, and applicable legal procedures.
• Previous experience in a legal office, collections, financial services, or automotive finance is an asset.
• Experience with legal coordination or recovery operations is an asset.
  

Requirements of a Paralegal

• Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Effective communication skills when dealing with legal representatives, debtors, and third-party service providers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, manage confidential information, and handle legal documentation.
• Ontario paralegal licensing is required where the duties involve providing legal services that require a license.
  

Compensation of a Paralegal

• Base salary starting at $55,000 annually, with experience considered
