About the Company

Our client is a fast-growing North American freight brokerage providing transportation solutions across Canada and the U.S.

With a team of approximately 20 employees today and plans to more than double in size, the company is entering an important stage of growth and is looking for an experienced Talent Acquisition & People Manager to help build the team and strengthen the People function as the organization scales.

The company operates in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and sales-driven environment and needs someone who approaches recruitment with the same persistence, urgency and commercial mindset as a strong salesperson.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take ownership of how the company finds, attracts, hires, develops and retains talent.

Approximately 60–70% of the role will focus on recruitment, with a particular emphasis on identifying and hiring high-performing, commission-driven sales professionals. The remaining scope will include onboarding, retention, performance management, employee relations, HR processes and Ontario employment practices.

The company is looking for someone who can do more than manage an established process. You'll be expected to take ownership, think creatively, build processes where needed and help create the People infrastructure required for the company's next stage of growth.

What You'll Own Talent Acquisition & Growth
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of freight brokers, account executives, carrier sales professionals, operations talent and other key hires.
  • Proactively source passive candidates through LinkedIn, job boards, referrals, competitor mapping, university and college programs, agencies and other creative sourcing channels.
  • Own the full recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing and screening through interviews, offers and onboarding.
  • Recruit specifically for commission-based and quota-carrying sales positions, with the ability to recognize the personality, motivation and commercial drive required to succeed.
  • Keep candidates engaged throughout the recruitment process and provide a strong candidate experience from first contact through start date.
  • Develop a repeatable recruitment process with clear interview stages, scorecards, assessments and timelines.
  • Build and strengthen the company's employer brand.
  • Coordinate with external recruiters, agencies and sourcing partners when required.
  • Track recruitment metrics such as pipeline activity, time-to-fill, offer acceptance and new-hire performance.
People, Performance & Retention
  • Build onboarding and training processes that help new employees become productive quickly.
  • Support employee retention, engagement and development initiatives.
  • Establish and manage performance review and coaching processes.
  • Help create clear career paths and opportunities for internal growth.
  • Support the development and administration of commission structures and performance incentives.
  • Partner directly with leadership on employee performance and People-related decisions.
HR Operations
  • Manage day-to-day employee relations and HR matters.
  • Support payroll coordination, benefits administration and HR systems.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, employee documentation and the employee handbook.
  • Manage performance and disciplinary processes when required.
  • Help ensure compliance with Ontario employment requirements and internal HR practices.
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in recruitment, Talent Acquisition, HR or People Operations, with significant hands-on recruiting responsibility.
  • Proven success recruiting commission-based or quota-carrying sales professionals.
  • Strong full-cycle recruitment experience, from proactive sourcing and headhunting through offer and onboarding.
  • Strong passive candidate sourcing capabilities.
  • Experience assessing sales talent beyond what's written on a resume.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario employment practices.
  • Experience building or improving recruitment and HR processes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence working directly with senior leadership and providing guidance when needed.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively and take ownership without needing a highly structured playbook.
  • An entrepreneurial, adaptable and proactive mindset.
  • A competitive and persistent approach to recruitment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Employer sponsorship is not available for this position.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in freight brokerage, logistics, transportation, or another fast-paced sales environment.
  • Experience designing or managing sales compensation and commission structures.
  • CHRP, CHRL or another relevant HR designation.
  • Experience working with external, offshore or remote recruitment partners.
The Person We're Looking For

You'll likely thrive in this environment if you:

  • Treat recruitment as a proactive, sales-driven function rather than waiting for applications to arrive.
  • Enjoy finding and engaging people who aren't actively looking for a new opportunity.
  • Can recognize strong sales potential and understand what makes a successful salesperson.
  • Are comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment where not everything already has a process.
  • Think creatively and don't need a rigid corporate playbook.
  • Can hold people accountable while still building strong relationships.
  • Want to build something rather than simply maintain what's already there.
  • Take genuine ownership of hiring and People outcomes.
Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a growing company at a stage where your work will have a direct and visible impact.

  • Build and shape the Talent & People function as the company scales.
  • Work directly with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Create recruitment and People processes rather than simply inherit them.
  • Play a key role in growing the organization to its next stage of growth.
  • Recruit and develop the team that will support the company's expansion.
  • Join an entrepreneurial, performance-oriented environment where initiative and results are valued.
