Uprising Bakehouse is an independent bakery in downtown Burlington specializing in organic, plant-based and gluten-free sourdough. We create thoughtfully made breads, bagels, baked goods, specialty drinks and nourishing meals using high-quality ingredients and traditional fermentation methods. Our mission is to create food that supports wellness without sacrificing flavour and to build a welcoming community around it.
Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and detail-oriented Baker to join our growing team. This hands-on position involves preparing gluten-free sourdough breads, bagels, baked goods and other menu items while maintaining Uprising Bakehouse's high standards for quality, consistency and cleanliness.
The ideal candidate has a positive, optimistic attitude, communicates well and enjoys working collaboratively in a busy kitchen. Previous professional baking or food-production experience is preferred, but a strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to learn are equally important. Training will be provided in our specialized gluten-free sourdough methods and recipes.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare, mix, shape, proof and bake gluten-free sourdough breads, bagels, rolls and other baked goods
• Follow recipes, production schedules and established procedures accurately and consistently
• Weigh and measure ingredients carefully using commercial scales
• Monitor dough fermentation, texture, temperature and proofing
• Prepare cookies, brownies, muffins, cinnamon rolls and other bakery products
• Assist with food preparation and assembly for sandwiches, pizza and other menu items
• Prepare ingredients, spreads, fillings, toppings and other components as required
• Mill grains and prepare sourdough starters and preferments according to bakery procedures
• Operate bakery equipment safely, including mixers, ovens, food processors, grain mills and bread slicers
• Monitor product quality and communicate any concerns promptly
• Package, label and store finished products correctly
• Track ingredient and product levels and communicate restocking needs
• Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary workspace throughout each shift
• Complete opening, closing, dishwashing and daily cleaning responsibilities
• Follow food-safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety procedures
• Work collaboratively with both back-of-house and front-of-house team members
• Assist with receiving, organizing and rotating ingredients and supplies
• Perform other bakery and food-production duties as needed
Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency
• Able to follow recipes, instructions and production schedules accurately
• Comfortable working independently once trained
• Able to stay organized and calm in a fast-paced production environment
• Previous bakery, commercial kitchen or food-production experience is an asset
• Experience with sourdough or gluten-free baking is an asset but not required
• Food Handler Certification is an asset or must be obtained within the required timeframe
• Availability for early-morning, weekday, weekend and holiday shifts
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 70 lb
Hours and Compensation
Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week.
Part-time approximately 15-24 hours per week.
Shifts will include early mornings, weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Pay: $18.50-$24 per hour, based on experience.
