Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced TIG/MIG Welding Coordinator to lead our welding team during the afternoon shift (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM). This role is responsible for coordinating daily welding operations, supporting production targets, maintaining quality and safety standards, and providing hands-on technical guidance to the team.

The ideal candidate brings extensive welding experience, strong knowledge of MIG and TIG processes, and proven experience supervising welding crews in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of approximately 8–10 welders, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to production priorities.
• Review the daily production schedule and assign welding jobs based on workload, employee skill level, job requirements, and required completion dates.
• Coordinate welding work to ensure completed parts move accurately and efficiently to the next stage of production without unnecessary delays or quality issues.
• Monitor welding jobs throughout the shift and follow up on production progress, priorities, and outstanding work.
• Ensure welders understand applicable shop drawings, weld requirements, work instructions, and quality expectations before beginning production.
• Coordinate and verify first-off production, assigning an experienced or senior welder where appropriate and ensuring initial parts meet requirements before the job proceeds.
• Train and support new and existing welders in TIG and MIG welding techniques, shop procedures, equipment use, and quality expectations.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and assist welders with troubleshooting welding defects, fit-up issues, equipment concerns, or other production challenges.
• Monitor completed welding work for workmanship and conformance to drawings, specifications, and established quality standards.
• Identify welding or production issues and work with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other departments as required to resolve problems.
• Ensure welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and work areas are maintained in safe and proper working condition, and report equipment issues requiring maintenance or repair.
• Help ensure materials and components are handled safely and carefully throughout the welding process to prevent damage, defects, or injury.
• Maintain an organized and efficient welding work area and promote good housekeeping practices throughout the department.
• Perform and promote work in accordance with company Health and Safety standards, including the proper use of required PPE.
• Conduct daily work-area assessments and identify, report, and address potential safety hazards.
• Reinforce company procedures, production standards, and safe work practices within the welding department.
• Communicate shift priorities, production concerns, quality issues, and other relevant information to management and other departments as required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving welding quality, productivity, workflow, and overall department performance.

Requirements

• Welding Certification required (non-negotiable).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a welding supervisory, lead-hand, or similar leadership role.
• Previous experience in a sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Previous hands-on experience with precision welding of metal components using MIG and TIG welding equipment and techniques is required.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from shop drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and production instructions.
• Experience working with a variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum.
• Ability to identify common welding defects and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Ability to safely handle incoming and outgoing parts while preventing damage or injury.
• Ability to operate a stand-up forklift is an asset.
• Availability to work weekends when required by production needs.

• Good mechanical blueprint-reading skills.

• Ability to organize work, establish priorities, and coordinate multiple jobs in a production environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and other departments.
• Positive attitude, self-motivated, and strong work ethic.
• Punctual and reliable.
• Strong attention to detail and good hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Schedule & Pay Details

• Shift: Afternoon shift (2:00 PM to 10:00 PM), 38.75 hours per week
• Salary: $32-35/hour
• Location: Port Coquitlam, BC
• Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
