Brantford, ON
Détails de l'emploi :
Thinkpath Engineering Services is looking for a CAD Designer to fill a contract-to-direct hire position located in Brantford, ON. This will be a 6 month contract and then will go direct with our client.
Job Description
As a member of the engineering team, you will use Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to convert, create, and update mechanical models and production drawings. Your primary focus will be bringing existing documentation up to date, incorporating approved changes, and ensuring drawings accurately reflect current product configurations and applicable drafting standards.
This role suits someone who is detail-oriented, asks thoughtful questions, and investigates historical drawings and revisions to understand design intent. You will prepare documentation for review by a senior engineer and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing colleagues. You will also help identify changes that may require validation or testing and work with the senior engineer to develop the supporting test plans, methods, and reports. Additional responsibilities may include supporting new projects and manufacturing fixtures.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert existing 2D drawings and legacy design information into accurate 3D part and assembly models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Create, revise, and maintain production drawings using Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Review historical drawings, revision records, engineering markups, and available product information to understand previous changes and design intent.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, and conflicting revisions; work with engineering colleagues to resolve questions before incorporating changes.
- Update drawings to reflect approved product changes, current configurations, company drafting practices, and applicable standards.
- Maintain consistency between models, drawings, parts lists, and bills of materials.
- Prepare clear manufacturing documentation, including dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and assembly details, as directed by engineering.
- Identify proposed changes that may affect fit, function, performance, or manufacturability and flag them to the senior engineer for assessment of validation or testing requirements.
- Work with the senior engineer to develop test plans, test methods, and acceptance criteria to validate changes.
- Support testing as required, document results, and prepare validation reports for senior engineering review.
- Incorporate approved changes and validation findings into the relevant models, drawings, and supporting documentation, maintaining traceability to the change.
- Maintain organized CAD files and accurate revision histories in accordance with company document-control practices.
- Check work for accuracy and completeness before submitting documentation to a senior engineer for review and approval.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to clarify drawing requirements and investigate documentation issues.
- Support modelling and detailing for new projects, manufacturing fixtures, and related engineering activities as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Typically 4–8 years of relevant experience as a CAD Designer, Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Drafter, or in a similar role.
- A college diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technician, Mechanical Design and Drafting, or a related discipline is preferred. A university degree in Mechanical Engineering is also accepted.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for 3D part modelling, assemblies, and drawing creation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating, interpreting, and updating 2D mechanical drawings.
- A practical understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and how production drawings are used on the shop floor.
- Experience updating existing designs and documentation using engineering instructions, markups, and revision records.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, dimensions, fits, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to recognize when a change may require engineering assessment or testing and communicate the concern clearly.
- Strong attention to detail and an organized approach to CAD files, documentation, and revision control.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document changes, observations, and test results.
- Sound judgment and a willingness to ask questions when information or design intent is unclear.
- Ability to manage assigned work reliably within a collaborative engineering team.
- Must have or be eligible to obtain Controlled Good certification
- Availability to work onsite in Brantford, Ontario.
